Biography
A graduate of Duke University, Trinity College, and the University of Florida, Law School, Diane Baltzelle McWhirter serves as the Chair of the Reporter’s Workshop in 2026, presented jointly with the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida Bar’s Media and Communications Law Committee (MCLC); she serves as Vice Chair of the Florida Bar’s Media and Communications Law Committee. With an active probate and estate planning practice, she frequently lectures on trial practice, case selection and probate law topics. McWhirter served as Chair of the Estate, Guardianship and Trust Committee for the Orange County Bar Association in Orlando, Florida.
While in law school and before serving as an assistant public defender for 3 years, Diane Baltzelle McWhirter clerked for Chief Judge Benjamin Tench of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, where she reviewed handwritten writs and appeals, wrote research memos and observed court hearings.
During her 40 years of courtroom experience, examples of her high profile cases include her representation of a: (1) child witness in a felony murder case; (2) Florida hotelier in both state and federal court in personal litigation; (3) an Orlando auto repair business against RICO, racketeering charges; (4) Foreign royalty and local celebrities with their family matters and (5) Volusia County charity in state and appellate court on first amendment and confidentiality of records issues.
An active member of the Downtown Orlando Rotary Club, former Secretary of the Orlando Rotary Foundation and the first woman member inducted into the Rotary Club of DeBary, Volusia County, Florida, Diane Baltzelle McWhirter twice received the Paul Harris award from Rotary International.
