Very professional and efficient

We first met Matt when he was working as a prosecutor for the state in a very emotionally difficult time for us. He did his job with justice and compassion. Very well. Since then we have used him 2 other times in his private practice. He has continued to demonstrate the same efficiency, professionali...sm and understanding that he did years ago. No one ever wants to have a lawyer for the rough times on standby, but we know that Matt is just a phone call away from taking care of whatever legal needs arise

The right combination of confidence and compassion.

Overwhelmed by intimidation and legalese, I was desperate for a sensible resolution to my situation. I read as much literature as I could on the subject, but I still felt totally unprepared to handle this problem alone. As an independent person, I was also intimated about the idea of contacting a law...yer. The very first time I spoke with Matt, his professional demeanor and expeditious approach to my case dissolved my despair and allowed me to put everything into perspective. I felt a calm for the first time since my problems arose. The insight and peace of mind he provided after our first interaction ensured that I made the right decision in contacting him. As this was the first time I ever needed a lawyer, the experience also changed my perception of attorneys. I was truly impressed and thankful to have someone like him on my side. Not that my word means much to anyone else, but this experience humbled me, and I know for sure the only reason I was able to resolve this issue in this manner is because of the dedicated, thorough approach Matthew took on my behalf. While I hope I am never in need of his services again, I would not hesitate to reach out to him in the future. Thank you, Matthew, for providing a safe harbor during a particularly stormy season in my life!

The best decision during the worst of times

Having worked in the legal field for over 15 years myself, I understand the importance of a good attorney. However, having to find a criminal lawyer to represent your child is an entirely different understanding of the law and can be very emotionally draining. Hiring Matthew Thompson to represent... my daughter was the best decision I could have made. His professionalism and compassion for his client was commendable. He always had her best interests at heart through the entire process and that was always clear. He was always willing to listen and offered the best legal advice (even if it wasn’t always what I wanted to hear). My daughter was barely 18 and struggling through things I didn’t understand, which resulted in criminal behavior. As a parent, I feel like hiring Matt Thompson gave my daughter a second chance at life. Not only did he represent her, he made sure she got the help she needed in the process. He gave her the hope she didn’t have (and me). He also didn’t sugar coat things or make promises he couldn’t keep. He educated her on the process and gave her the best representation possible for the most favorable outcome. During the criminal process, there are always multiple hearings, some with continuances that are out of the attorney’s control. Matt kept us informed about each and every hearing and was diligent with every step of the process. He always responded quickly to emails, phone calls or texts regarding questions from either myself or my daughter. He also offered future services for the fees paid such as expungement and early termination of probation. I am thankful that during a very bad time in our lives we had Matt by her side. Throughout the entire process and in front of the Judge, his professionalism, diligence, compassion and expertise clearly showed in all his actions. I would highly recommend Matt Thompson. My daughter and I will forever be grateful for his representation.

Great at taking your money!!!

I hired Mr. Thompson to aggressively defend me for a crime I did not commit. All he did was continue the case month after month. He did manage to squeeze another $600 out of me for his retired detective buddy that provided me with information I already knew. He did file one motion, but only after I m...ade suggestions and then told me that the plaintiffs do not have to follow the ruling on the motion. He didn't pay attention to or look at the evidence I submitted, which would have made a huge difference in the case. He rarely responded to my emails and phone calls and eventually withdrew, kept my money, and left me with no help. This is not an attorney you want if your life and career and safety depend on it. He doesn't want to take the time to answer questions and explain the process. He is not personable, compassionate, and understanding. He wants a lot of praises and pats on the back - I'm just not sure for what. In short, he took $2600 from me and basically did nothing except to file a motion to continue month after month. When I would ask him a question, he would get angry and tell me to leave his office. I was asking reasonable questions and I am paying him for information and assistance to clear my name from people who just want revenge because I want the rules followed and enforced. It is a sad situation and somebody needs to develop a conscience before he continues to practice law and make or break a person's life. In closing, the best advice I can give to people seeking legal help is only pay a lawyer to properly file necessary paperwork ( as this is sometimes not an easy thing to do unless you are in the know) and do the rest yourself. When I did it this way, I won in court! The other times in court, it didn't really go my way - which is sad too. Honesty is not taken seriously in the court system - a hard lesson I am still trying to figure out. Very very sad!!!

I hope that anyone who reads this can see the bias nature in which this was written. Unfortunately, as lawyers we represent a wide array of people and we have to make our best judgment of those people when we first meet them. It does not always work out the way we hope. We also put ourselves at the mercy of the internet and allow anyone to write a review. The nature of our practice prohibits us from giving the world our side of the story and I hold the sanctity of attorney/client privilege with the utmost regard. I will not stoop to the level of this person to address what he or she has stated about me. I would invite you to do a bit more fact checking and please contact anyone whom you trust in the community to give a fair and accurate review if you are considering hiring my firm. I thank all of my current clients and former clients for their support and allowing me to represent you in cases that are important to you.

"What can you say about Matt Thompson other than "wow, this guy is phenomenal!"? I've known Matt for years as we went to school together. Matt is one of those guys that has the "it" factor and he's able to use that to his client's advantage in the courtroom. He's one of those guys that everyone envied and wished we could have his fluidity and natural ability to litigate and get results. As fate would have it, he's become one of the best attorneys I know and he reinforces that opinion on a daily basis. The highest compliment one attorney can give another is that we would refer a family member to them. Not only would I do that in a heartbeat, I would elect to use him over other attorneys perhaps more familiar with the jurisdiction. No question in my mind that Matt Thompson is the go to guy on the east coast for any criminal, personal injury, or general civil matter. You won't regret hiring him, I guarantee it."
