Look elsewhere
Keep looking, you can get much better representation and not have to risk a terrible outcome like ours. Juan 'handled' my wife's traffic citation. Juan's communication was terrible. I had to call multiple times to set up the arrangement, which I didn't mind. when the court date was only a few days aw...
Thank you for the feedback. The circumstances of this case were such that getting a withhold of adjudication in this matter as I did (a withhold of adjudication means the driver received no points) was far better than I expected given the sentencing tendencies of the judges in this county for drivers going in excess of 100 mph. The citing officer had all of his paperwork in order for the hearing, completed the required pre and post shift check, had all necessary certifications and calibrations and an independent recollection of the events. Given all of this, there was no path to getting the case dismissed. I requested that the officer recommend to the court that no points be given for the offense in exchange for a no contest plea. The court was hesitant to do so given the high rate of speed and previous traffic history, but ultimately was willing to keep the points off the license but ordered the driver to traffic school and ordered a $400 fine (the maximum fine could have been up to $500). I wish that there was more that could have been done, of course. It's always easier to give someone great news as opposed to less than great news. It's true that this is going to cost you a little bit of money and a little bit of time, but it could have also cost you some points on your license and so what I could do, I did. Thank you again for taking the time to leave a review and for the feedback. Wish you well.
"As an Assistant State Attorney in the Eighth Judicial Circuit I practiced against Juan in misdemeanor and felony court for over a decade. Juan was one of the defense attorneys who I was always willing to negotiate with as a prosecutor because I knew he would come to court extremely prepared for anything I could throw at him. Even though Juan was a tough defense attorney to have to work against I actually enjoyed working with him on cases because he is extremely trustworthy and a very skilled and prepared negotiator. I now work as a criminal defense attorney in the Eighth Judicial Circuit and Juan has continued to be a great friend, colleague, and mentor to me. I endorse and highly recommend Juan for any of your legal needs."

"Juan is good people. He takes his responsibilities to his clients to heart, and he will tell you the truth, even when it is not easy. He's a good man to have by your side if you're facing a serious challenge."
"Mr. Calama is an excellent attorney who handles every case and client with a great deal of compassion. He is excellent in the courtroom, and at the negotiating table. I highly endorse him."
"When I was a DUI prosecutor in Gainesville, FL, I often had cases in which Mr. Calama was opposing counsel. He is indeed an aggressive and hard-working advocate for each and every one of his clients. I was always impressed by him. He is always one of the smartest and best prepared attorneys in the court room and knows the criminal justice system better than most. He is genuine in his effort to help people and he is a trustworthy attorney. I highly recommend him."
