Buckle up.

I wish I had done my due diligence. I had a custody situation as well as QDRO situation that needed to be addressed. I had dealt with some shady lawyers prior and mistook his personable demeanor for integrity. Nearly nothing to show for more than a half a year of time and just about all of my retai...ner. It became obvious that he either didn't know what he was talking about or was just BS'ing me. Please read the contract, the fine print will likely be a prelude to how your experience will likely play out. Extremely slow pace. Minimal production. Overcharging for phone calls, emails. filing paperwork. Clerical work. He was kind enough to even admit to me after about 6 months of minimal communication and progress, he hadn't really done much on my case-even apologized. Did not stop him from continuing to overcharge for his services. He was even kind enough to charge me for firing him. He is no different than many of the other attorney's as far as business and billing practices are concerned. I would not recommend him. If you enter into a contract with this man do yourself a favor and ask for parameters on how long things will take, and how much it will cost. Otherwise, expect a slow, unproductive expensive ride.

May as well use the suggestions of the court

I am a father who was going through a divorce with child custody issues. James was recommended by another attorney that I had prior dealings with. The other attorney was not a family law attorney but had provided excellent work, so I ran with his recommendation. I should have looked around before ...making such an important decision. In the end I paid James more than 7k and ended up paying almost the exact amount suggested by the courts, amongst other things including paying some of her attorney fees (FYI:her attorney was cheaper then James and he didn't specialize in family law). 60% of my payroll is now deducted for child support. James made sure I was divorced but he did nothing to protect my interests. If I had not been present during mediation I would have been subject to the exact amount the court recommended because James did not make sure my income documentation reflected the difference between my average wage amount and my overtime amount. If I had been subject to the higher biweekly child support order - I would not be able to pay it since my company has basically eliminated overtime due to the economy. I would never recommend his services to anyone. If you are married without children and have little or no personal interests and your main concern is just an expedited divorce, he may be of some interest but it would be more economical for you and your estranged spouse to work it out among yourselves. I will never use his services again even when I return to court for modifications. To sum it up...James was a waste of money and time.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
