Matthew F. Havice came to Jimerson & Cobb, P.A., in February of 2012 from a prominent statewide firm, where he was the Senior Associate in their Liability Defense and Construction Departments and practiced extensively in the areas of construction, mass tort liability, premises liability and automobile/trucking negligence. Following graduation from law school, Mr. Havice served as a Staff Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit, where he performed legal research and drafting for Circuit Court Judges in Clay, Nassau and Duval Counties. He assisted the Judges with issues including illegal sentencing, ineffective assistance of counsel, prosecutorial misconduct, and suppression of evidence at trial. In 2007 he was appointed by Donald R. Moran, Jr., Chief Judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit, as a Special Master and presided over evidentiary hearings ordered by the First District Court of Appeals, reporting his findings directly to District Court of Appeals. He currently represents individuals, corporations, financial institutions and businesses in litigation matters including contractual disputes, business torts, commercial and residential construction, banking and foreclosure actions, and personal injury matters.
Born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, Mr. Havice moved to Jacksonville in the summer of 2003 after graduating from The Pennsylvania State University, where he was a member of the Golden Key National Honors Society. He attended Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, graduating Cum Laude in 2006. While attending Florida Coastal School of Law, he served as a legal writing tutor and Editorial Board Member of the Florida Coastal Law Review.
Focusing his practice on commercial litigation, creditors rights and commercial collections, construction litigation, banking law and personal injury matters, Mr. Havice has experience in all stages of litigation, including alternative dispute resolution, negotiation of settlement and litigation of matters up through and including trial. As a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association, Mr. Havice currently serves as the Bar Association’s Sports League Commissioner and volunteers annually at the Jacksonville Run for Cover, a race promoting skin cancer awareness. He also serves on the Advisory Board for the Florida State College of Jacksonville’s Paralegal Studies Program.
Mr. Havice resides in Jacksonville with his faithful Husky, Dallas. Though his free time is limited, his non-professional interests include softball, hikes with Dallas (weather permitting as she is more suited for the Iditarod than summer walks on the beach in Florida), recreational shooting, attending both professional and amateur sporting events, as well as biographies of historically significant political and military figures.
