Elder Law 24%

My practice deals with issues related to elderly and disabled people. I plan strategies for obtaining Medicaid and Veteran's Benefits to pay for long-term care. Our servies are useful when dealing with end-of-life planning decisions and instances of elder abuse and exploitation. We are familiar with public and private resources that may be available for you or your elderly relatives. We also write wills, powers of attorney, and health care proxies.

Estate Planning 24%

"Estate" is the legal term used to define your property and money;basically, everything that belongs to you. We identify different strategies you can use to manage your affairs when you are incapacitated and transfer your belongings after you die. Our estate planning methods help you protect your estate after you die. We help you keep your life's savings in your family after you die by protecting it from divorcing spouses (the family's "outlaws") and from your children's creditors.

Guardianship 24%

When a person is incapacitated and can no longer care for their own interests, the court appoint someone to make legal and healthcare decisions for them. That person is called a "Guardian." A legal guardian may be appointed as a limited decision-maker or an all-purpose decision-maker. For example, an elderly person may have one guardian for financial decision making and another for healthcare decision making. In most cases, though, the Court appoints one Guardian for everything. This review is from a person who hired this attorney.

Poor communication, abysmal client service. Find another attorney.

I am writing this to warn anyone who might be considering using the Selis Law Firm. My family hired the Selis Law Firm April 14, 2025 to handle the probate case of our youngest brother, an Ormond Beach resident who died intestate. My siblings and I all live outside Florida and we knew no local att...orneys, so we interviewed some local attorneys and were favorably impressed by the presentation made by Scott Selis. We wish now we had done more research on his firm and were aware then of how poorly his clients rate him and that he received a public reprimand from the Bar in 2024. We had an early warning about the firm's competence when Selis alerted us through his client portal that the contact list of family heirs that we gave him when we hired his firm had been lost that same day. We resubmitted this information through the portal. Because the initial filings in our case were simple fill-in-the-blank forms, we assumed they'd be done and submitted to the court quickly. On April 24, April 30, and May 8, we asked for updates on what progress was being made, but received none. On May 15 I finally was able to speak with a paralegal who was mildly belligerent about my questions about why no progress was being made, who said they had been unable to contact the heirs because our addresses had been lost. She also falsely claimed that she had only learned of our case that day. (We could see email correspondence in the client portal directing her to work on the case back in April.) I sent an email to Scott expressing my dissatisfaction that no work had been done on our case in weeks, and he suggested we have a Zoom meeting May 19 to discuss. At that meeting he apologized for the poor way our case had been handled and promised that drafts of the documents for filing would be sent to us shortly. I received the draft documents (court filings and waivers for the heirs to sign for my appointment as personal representative) for review on May 20 and they were riddled with errors - inconsistent spellings of the heirs' names, address errors, and formatting and typographical errors. I corrected all these and returned them to the firm May 21 and was told I'd receive corrected versions by May 22. On May 27 I received more copies of the draft filings with the same errors I'd marked on May 21. I complained and was told Scott would call me. He did not. On May 29 I again asked for an update. Scott responded and said he was unaware our case was being handled so poorly and promised the firm would do better. On May 30 my siblings and I were in Ormond Beach again for my brother's memorial service and we met in person with Scott and his team. Scott apologized again and said the court filings would be done Monday, June 2, and we would get confirmation when they were done. This would have been seven weeks since we had hired the firm. On June 6, with no confirmation that the filings had been done, we dismissed Scott as our attorney. The performance of the attorney we hired to succeed him, Tonya Cromartie, has been a stark contrast with our experience with Scott. For example, whereas Scott's firm took more than five weeks to prepare the waivers for heirs to sign (and again, these are fill-in-the blank forms), Tonya's firm had the draft waivers in my hands for review within an hour after I first contacted her. Our family erred in not doing more research before hiring Scott Selis. I hope others who read this can avoid our mistake.

Excellent Elder Lawyer

Scott is a caring person. When I came to him, I was distraught because I was afraid I would lose everything that I have to a nursing home. My husband has Alzheimer's Disease. Scott took the time to understand what I was afraid of and gave me a solution that has worked. My husband is now in a nu...rsing home and the bill is being paid by Medicaid thanks to Scott's help. I would highly recommend using Scott.
