also known as Jason W. Blanchard, Jason Blanchard
As an Assistant United States Attorney, Jason represents the United States government, federal agencies, and federal employees in civil matters throughout the Southern District of Georgia's 43 counties.
Prior to joining the DOJ, Jason Blanchard concentrated his legal practice on a wide variety of civil litigation matters (lawsuits and disputes) which included employment, business, commercial, real estate, and personal injury cases. He represented both individuals as well as business entities; specifically, Jason has represented both employers and employees in employment-related disputes, as well as plaintiffs and defendants in his business, commercial, and real estate litigation practice.
Jason also focuses a significant portion of his practice on appellate litigation and has taken numerous cases to the Supreme Court of Georgia, Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Department of Labor's Board of Review, as well as the Office of State Administrative Hearings. His experience in this area includes preparing and filing briefs for appellants and appellees and arguing those cases before Georgia's appellate courts, preparing and filing Amicus Curiae or "friend of the Court" briefs for third-parties interested in the outcome of important appellate cases, briefing and arguing cases before the Office of State Administrative Hearings on behalf of employers related to the Georgia Department of Labor's imposition of fines and interest based on the Department of Labor’s determination that an individual should be classified as an employee instead of an independent contractor, as well as preparing and filing briefs with the Georgia Department of Labor on behalf of employers and employees involved in unemployment claim disputes.
Jason's substantial appellate experience has resulted in numerous reported cases, including cases of first impression in Georgia and cases which have overturned Georgia law, some of which include the following: Steinichen v. Stancil, 284 Ga. 580 (2008); Byers v. McGuire Properties, Inc., 285 Ga. 530 (2009); Brock v. Yale Mortgage Corporation, 287 Ga. 849 (2010); Kenerly v. State, 311 Ga. App. 190 (2011); and Ghodrati v. Stearnes, 314 Ga. App. 321 (2012). While in law school, Jason served as a summer law clerk to current Justice Hugh P. Thompson at the Supreme Court of Georgia.
Prior to joining Tucker Long in 2012, Jason was an attorney for the largest law firm in metro Atlanta's Gwinnett County, where he served as a member of the Litigation Group since 2007. Jason received his Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law in 2007, where he was a member of the Brainerd Currie Honor Society. He was a member of the Mercer Law Review during 2005-2006, as well as a member of the Moot Court Board during 2005-2007. He was also a competitor in the Vale Corporate Law Moot Court Competition in Wilmington, Delaware, while at Mercer.
Jason received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus on accounting, cum laude, in 2001 from Augusta State University. At Augusta State, Jason was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. Prior to attending Augusta State University, Jason attended Maryville College, in Maryville, Tennessee, where he was a member of the football team.
Jason is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Prior to attending law school, Jason was employed by Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, a regional CPA firm, as a senior auditor where he performed audit and consulting services. He also worked as an internal auditor with the Medical College of Georgia Health, Inc.
Jason was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Georgia in 2007, and is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, the Georgia Office of State Administrative Hearings, and the Georgia Department of Labor. Mr. Blanchard is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bar Association, the Augusta Bar Association, and the American Association of Attorney-CPA's.
