Mr. Abernathy has been our families attorney for several years now he has represented myself on personal injury cases as well as criminal matters with my son. I payed this lawyer $15,000 for a criminal case. He never returned phone calls, never let us know what was going on in the case, never let us know of any evidence he may or may not have had, never brought us in to explain anything stating,"he didn't want to get personally involved." Advised us to not... accept a plea bargain with no jail time and ended up not going to trial and receiving a plea bargain with 20 years serve 5. After he received his $15,000, he acted as though he could care less about his client. As far as I know he never even listened to the interrogation tape until the morning of the trial which was to late then to try to defend it. From the time we hired him until the case went to trial (which it never really made it to trial) was 1 year and 4 months during which time he did nothing. Not anything he ever let us know, we were told that he could "blow holes" in the case and had nothing to worry about. All he cared about was getting the money and cared less about his client.
