2001 I was going to Chattanooga on i24 and where the interstate catches the tip of Georgia I ran into drug check point be prepared to stop.. well some drugs were found on the ground at the scene.. Rex Abernathy does not communicate at all! My brother hired Rex Abernathy to defend him because he was told by many people that he was the best defense attorney in the state, I have no idea how he achieved this reputation. My brother and his fiance paid Mr. Abernathy $8,000.00 and expected to have a...ctual meetings and at the very least phone communication with the man but instead he left him in the jail for 4 months with no meeting until the day before the court date and then talked him into taking a deal assuring him that if he took a two year deal that he would be out in 3 or 4 months at the most rather than pushing for going to drug rehab which is where he should be to start with. My brother got hooked on drugs and is not a hardened criminal, while he did need to pay for breaking the law it should have been in a rehab program not incarceration. Mr. Abernathy hasn't done one thing to stand up for his client now that he knows the prison is ignoring the judges orders to count the 6 months from intinital time of arrest plus the 4 months he sat in jail waiting on his court date (so much for a speedy trial) as time served towards his 2 year term which would allow him to get out sooner and get help sooner to avoid being drawn back into the situation . Mr. Abernathy also assured my brother would go to a medical prison because he is terminally ill but of course that didn't happen either. I'd like to know what he did to earn his money. He won't return calls or text messages and never shows up, texts or calls back when his staff says he will. If you want good representation please go elsewhwere!!!! Save yourself the hardship!!!!!!!
