Born in Toccoa, I have been a Georgian all of my life.  I received a debate scholarship to the University of Georgia.  I was an active participant on the University of Georgia  Debate Team  throughout my undergrad years, and I became the Captain of the debate team my Junior and Senior years.  I received my B.A.  from the University of Georgia graduating with honors in 1970.  After receiving my bachelor's degree, I enrolled in the University of Georgia School of Law and received my J.D. in 1973.

While in law school, I became a Lieutenant in the JAG program in the United States Navy and became an active Lieutenant after passing the Georgia Bar in 1973.  I began my local law career working for a general practice law firm in Toccoa, Georgia in 1973.  I also became an Adjunct Professor of Government and taught at Truett McConnell College in 1973.  In 1974, I moved to Lyons, Georgia where I was an Associate for an insurance defense law firm, Sharpe, Hartley & Newton.  While in Lyons, Georgia, I had another Adjunct Professor of Government position at Brewton Parker Junior College.  Since 1975, I have had my own practice, The Brown Law Office which is located in Commerce, Georgia.

My practice is over 85% litigation.  I continue to focus on General Civil Litigation cases but since 1992,  I have specialized in Family Law matters such as Divorce, Custody, and Child Support.

I have a wife, Ann,  whom I met in Commerce, Georgia.  We have been married since 1970.  We have four children:  Andrew, Jennifer, Ashley and Benjamin.

Best attorney around!!
I highly recommend Mr. Brown and I have dealt with many attorneys in the past on several different civil matters. He actively pursued my case to ensure I got what I needed to support my children and to allow them to remain in a stable environment. I would say he is an all around Super Lawyer!!

Experienced, knowledgable Attorney.
Mr. Brown represented me in my custody case a couple of years ago. He did a wonderful job ensuring the safety of my children, which was my number one priority. I was awarded primary physical custody with supervised visitation for my ex due to a long struggle she was having with alcohol and drugs. This was definitely a time that I am happy I did not go with the cheapest representation available. Mr. Brown is good at what he does and I highly recommend him for any type of legal matters.

Tough and Prolonged Divorce
Terry Brown took on my divorce case which appeared to be a simple uncontested divorce as there was a pre-nuptial agreement. However, it quickly morphed into a complex contested divorce with out of state and international complications. The defendant was not a US citizen but did have permanent resident status. I had signed an immigrant sponsorship document that defense counsel attempted to use to claim alimony which would have reached into the six figures. Opposing council attempted to show that I was an abusive husband, even calling in DFACS to investigate (and spend hours searching my house). The pre-nuptial agreement was questioned and opposing council made a rigorous attempt to get this rejected by the court. The defendant would not supply all documents requested during discovery thus causing numerous problems and a trip to court to obtain these. Several issues and conflicts with the defendant’s income statements were found by Terry. Even with all these problems (and about 20 other minor issues) and a yearlong divorce, Terry won the case for me. The abuse issue was unfounded, DFACS refused to investigate farther as there was no evidence and conflicting information provided. The immigration sponsorship was not accepted, and the pre-nuptial agreement was. As Terry stated “what’s your’s is your’s and what’s mine is mine” turned out correctly. While it was a long, stressful divorce, the trial outcome was better that I expected based on the risk and exposure I had. I will recommend Terry for any type of divorce.

Best Attorney that I have ever hired!
Mr. Brown did a great job handling my case. He kept me informed of the current status of the case and he was well prepared in court. He really took the time to get me prepared for what I would be facing on the stand during my hearing. I highly recommend Mr. Brown!

Did a great job with my divorce!
Terry handled my divorce. It ended up taking a lot longer than it should have due to the opposing lawyer stating the same things over, and over, and over again. Terry stuck with me though and was always well prepared and concentrated on the actual issues that I believe matter in a divorce. I was extremely pleased with the outcome. If you ever need a divorce attorney, I highly recommend that you call Terry Brown.

Above and Beyond Kind of Attorney
Mr. Brown worked on a divorce/custody matter for me. He was very straightforward from the beginning. He didn't "sugarcoat" anything so I knew exactly what I could expect, both the good and the bad. Thankfully, Mr. Brown worked his tail off for me. It is because of him that I have full custody of my children. He surpassed my expectations of what an attorney could do for my case. He completely changed my opinion on attorneys in general. Mr. Brown was my advocate and I can't tell you what a weight off my shoulders it was to have someone always in my corner with a plan of action. I cannot thank Mr. Brown enough for what he did for me. Needless to say, I highly recommend John Terry Brown.
