I was engaged to be married and had a close friend going through a terrible divorce that was threatening to ruin her financially. My friend and I are similar: strong, successful women. After seeing what her husband was putting her through, and how he was challenging her future, I discussed getting ...a prenup with my fiance, which he agreed to. I decided to hire Alexa to represent me through the drafting and negotiation of the prenup, and I couldn't be happier. My goal was to have a very fair, pragmatic agreement in place with my fiance about splitting our assets should things go south, so neither of us could be 'taken for everything' if the worst ever took place. I have never been married before, so this was a foreign (and a little bit scary) process for me. Alexa was invaluable to this process: - She was incredibly flexible and accommodating with the timeline. We ended up drafting this prenup only about 45 days before our wedding, and she explained the timeline needs to get this finalized in time to be valid. - She provided sample documents for me to understand what I needed to gather from my finances (and from my advisor) to get everything accounted for in the documentation. - Alexa helped me in one tough area with my fiance and his representation: the equity in my current home that was going to become a "marital asset." My Fiance and I disagreed how that should be accounted for - it was the one real tough part to get through. But Alexa was calm, rational, and helped us reach an agreement that was the most fair for both of us. - She was experienced. She advised what was really necessary in the document, and what wasn't because it's "already in the law." - Her follow through was a great addition. Because our prenup was filed so close before our wedding, she reached out after we were married and advised we complete a "post-martial endorsement." She explained that if we did ever need to rely on our prenup, because it was filed so close to the wedding, it might be seen as less reliable (like a hasty decision.) So she asked us to complete a very short doc, after we were married, to endorse that our prenup was still agreed to. - Alexa was incredibly reasonable on pricing, and even offered a discount as we were getting married. She called it a "congratulations" discount. Because we'd put her through a bit of a tough timeline, I felt it was extremely generous and it was very appreciated. Overall, I couldn't be happier with Alexa's guidance and expertise. I hope I don't need her again for this matter, but if I do, I wouldn't hesitate to have her represent me in another family law need.
