Jeffrey S. Kowalski is a seasoned and trusted attorney with nearly two decades of litigation experience. Licensed to practice law in Georgia since 2003, he is admitted to all Georgia state courts and to the U.S. States District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia. Since joining Montlick in 2008, Jeff has focused his practice on workers’ compensation law, helping clients obtain the benefits, medical care, and financial support they need when workplace injuries disrupt their lives.
Before joining Montlick, Jeff began his legal career in intellectual property and patent law prosecution before shifting his focus to workers’ compensation and personal injury litigation. He went on to serve as the lead attorney for a litigation team, managing complex cases and guiding clients through every stage of the process. Earlier in his career, Jeff also represented insurance companies in defense matters – experience that gives him a balanced perspective and the insight to anticipate insurer tactics while protecting his clients’ rights effectively.
Known for his calm and principled approach, Jeff takes time to ensure clients understand each step of the process and feel supported along the way. He believes the more information they have, the better equipped they are to make confident decisions about their case. Colleagues and clients alike describe him as professional, compassionate, and unwavering in his dedication to doing what’s right.
Jeff’s passion for the law began early. Growing up, he was inspired by courtroom dramas like LA Law and other legal shows, which is when he knew he wanted to be an attorney; to “right the wrongs done to people” and experience the challenge and thrill of winning in the courtroom. Known for being a dynamic, compassionate and hardworking attorney who fights for his clients, Jeffrey loves uncovering the nuances of each case, building winning arguments against opposing counsel and adjusters and helping clients navigate the legal system to achieve the best possible outcome. His colleagues call it “good lawyering”, something his solid 5-Star Client Rating from AVVO attests.
This commitment to excellence has earned Jeff recognition from peers and national legal organizations. He has been selected to the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 and the Workers’ Compensation Top 25 – distinctions reserved for a small percentage of attorneys nationwide who exemplify professionalism and results in their field.
Among Jeff’s most impactful cases are those in which he has fought to hold insurance companies accountable when they attempt to minimize or deny benefits owed to injured workers. He is driven by a deep sense of fairness and persistence, working tirelessly to ensure his clients receive the care and support they deserve. Over the years, Jeff has resolved numerous cases that provided lasting stability and security for his clients and their families. For Jeff, these cases reflect what motivates his practice – standing up for people who need help the most and ensuring that every client’s rights are protected.
Jeff earned his law degree from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law (formerly Franklin Pierce Law Center) in 2002. While in law school, he participated in the Legal Practice Clinic and was authorized to practice under New Hampshire’s Third-Year Rule, gaining early courtroom experience.
Before pursuing law, Jeff built a successful first career in engineering. He graduated from Lawrence Technological University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, serving as Student Class President in both his junior and senior years and contributing to the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity’s Philanthropy Committee. As an electrical controls engineer, he designed and programmed robots and automated systems for Fortune 500 companies. His engineering background sharpened his analytical and problem-solving skills – qualities that now define his legal approach.
Raised in Sterling Heights, Michigan, Jeff has lived in Georgia for more than 20 years. He makes his home in Cumming with his wife, Hana, and their children, along with two dogs and three cats. Outside of work, Jeff is passionate about fitness and enjoys trail hiking, snowboarding and gardening – especially cultivating hot peppers and turning them into an array of homemade hot sauces. He also enjoys traveling, cooking, stand-up comedy, horror films, and cheering on the Michigan Wolverines.
