Absolutely not recommended

This is by far the worst lawyer we have ever come across with. We were very unfamiliar with the judicial system when my boyfriend first ran into issues with the law. From the start, we had our reservations to hire him but he came highly recommended by someone with similar case circumstances. Little d...id we know. This lawyer is not honest, gives up false hopes and lies when telling you he is actively working on your case. This was confirmed when numerous times he could not remember the case itself and he would get it confused with another one. We had to constantly call to find out any progress on our case defense and it would take over a week to get a call back. There was an instance where we met with him and he thought he had the right case files and even addressed my boyfriend by someone else's name! All legal documents produced by him or his paralegal were riddled with typos. We literally built our own defense suggesting valid arguments based on the facts and our own research. When presented to him he would either dismiss them with no real reason as to why or he would never follow up on others even when he thought they were good to use. Please do your homework before you decide to hire him. He is not cheap and not worth the agony you go through with him when you know your case could be a winner and he simply does not deliver due to his lack of involvement, and blatantly shows he does have the best interest for you as a client. We should have fired him but we had already paid for his services. When a lawyer sits across from you while waiting for your verdict, and tells you it is a slam dunk and you know you will lose the case after witnessing his terrible performance, it is too late for you to do anything about it. We lost it but thank God we were able to hire a great team of lawyers who went beyond their duties to win our appeal and achieve what should have been the outcome of our trial.

Appeal

Thoroughly prepared my Appeal and won having my sentence overturned. Very knowledgable with the court system. Paralegal was very supportive, and good at keeping us in the loop. mr. Stokes allows telephone calls, but does not do prison visits which is my only complaint. Price was very fair.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
