Before entering private practice, Lydia spent more than 15 years as a trial attorney with the Office of the Solicitor at the United States Department of Labor. She brought hundreds of enforcement actions on behalf of the Secretary of Labor in federal district courts and before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, the Office of Administrative Law Judges, the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Her caseload ran from complex ERISA litigation, to minimum wage and overtime violations, to workplace safety matters involving fatalities and grievous injuries at worksites across the Southeast.
From 2022 to 2024 she served as acting counsel for the Employee Benefits Security Administration in the Southeast Region, supervising and coordinating all government ERISA litigation across six states and multiple district courts.
Lydia clerked for Judge Phyllis A. Kravitch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and Judge P. Michael Duffy of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. She earned her J.D. with high honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law and her B.A. in English literature, magna cum laude, from Columbia University.
