In my 35 years of practicing law in the personal injury field, I have been involved in claims that would break your heart into pieces. When you investigate these wrecks and look at the photos taken at the scene of the crash — photos of men, women, and children — who have died in these collisions, it leaves an indelible mark on you. Try as I may, I can never forget those faces.
Equally gut-wrenching are the times when I meet with the surviving family members to talk about the wreck and about their loved one. They have such fond, vivid memories. But now, their world is turned upside down. I serve as part attorney and part counselor —- helping them through the legal process while listening to them, at times crying with them, but always supporting them through the process.
Other families have met with me at the table discussing their wreck and their injuries. They tell me the paychecks have stopped coming because of the partner’s back injury. Unfortunately, the bills haven’t stopped. They are worried:
* will they lose their job?
* how will they pay the medical bills without health insurance?
* who will pay to repair the damaged car?
* what about their future medical needs?
These are certainly legitimate concerns and worries and these victims deserve answers. They deserve someone who is willing to fight to get them all the cash and benefits they are legally entitled to receive. Every single client needs an attorney that cares, that will take action, and will listen.
I’ll admit, it’s not an easy task.
I suppose I learned best how to work with people when tragedy strikes from watching my father. For more than 50 years, he was a United Methodist minister serving churches in south Alabama and northwest Florida. He was always there whenever someone needed to talk - never judging, but listening. It’s funny how a lot of people just assume preachers only work on Saturdays for weddings and Sundays to preach - mix in the occasional funeral too. His work never seemed to end. If the home phone wasn’t ringing, there was a knock on the door from one of the members of the church - or a friend of a friend who was a member - that just wanted to talk.
This kind of work is not a 9-to-5 type of commitment. It requires long hours, rolling up the sleeves, and a dedicated work ethic.
I am proud to say that we have helped over 45,000 victims and their families since 1993 in their car wreck, workers’ compensation, wrongful death, inadequate security, and social security claims. It has been an honor and a privilege to have helped these people through their trying times. I’m proud of what I do, and I’m thankful that the Good Lord has given me the opportunity to continue to work in this field.

The worst experience
I hired Gary Martin hays for my auto accident I was hit by a tow truck. They sent someone out to my house to look at the damages on my car. They gave me a place to get treatment at for my back. Michael: We are sorry that you are not satisfied. Let me address some points in your review. We did assist you with getting the minor bumper damage repaired on your car at NO charge to you. We also helped you get medical treatment with a doctor that would not require co-pays or payment as you treated. We completely disagree with your assertion that you had "trouble" talking to people at my firm. My attorneys and staff were very responsive to you. Throughout your case, there were 30 phone calls to and from you, 17 phone calls to and from others, including the insurance companies and doctors. 14 emails sent and/or received, and 35 letters sent and received. The fact that you lost your job is something completely outside our control as Georgia is an "employment at will" state. However, we did tell you and every client - as best you can, try not to miss work if you can help it. We don't want matters to get even worse by losing your job. We are in the process of negotiating bills on your claim to make sure we get as much money to you as possible. Our fee is 1/3 of the gross settlement. This is the standard rate charged by most firms that specialize in personal injury. Two things to note: (1) some firms charge 40% to 45%. Ours is only 1/3. (2) I disagree completely with your statement "I could of done that by myself." You NEVER would have recovered the settlement we did for you. Also, you would have encountered problems getting treatment without having to pay co-pays or bills as you incurred them. Finally, YOU decided to settle the claim for the insurance company's offer rather than filing suit in an effort to recover more money. You were counseled every step of the way, and you made the decision to settle. I am more than happy to discuss your claim with you - as I am with every client. I'm just at a loss as to why you made the assertions you made without justification - and BEFORE all negotiations have happened on your claim. There is NO basis for you to say you received "nothing." We pride ourselves on our client service and will continue to work with you on this matter.
