Incompetent and Unprofessional - Avoid at all costs

Reese is one of the most unprofessional and incompetent lawyers I've ever worked with. I came to him with a simple task of writing up a family settlement agreement and deed of distribution. Both tasks should be easy for a lawyer with any experience at all. Once we got started, I sent the paralegal... all of my documentation and a detailed description of the facts. Despite this, she responded asking for documents and details that I had already provided. After resending the information, I waited. After a week with no response, I sent a followup email asking for a status update, to which no one responded. After a month, I called them and told them I wanted to quit the relationship. Then Reese got on the phone with me and told me they would have some of the documents in a day. It took almost a week, but I got the first set of documents (the family settlement agreement), riddled with typos and other errors. I had to spend 20 minutes reading through it with a fine-toothed comb to make sure I caught all the mistakes. I know they didn't proof read anything. Once I got the corrected document, Reese promised that I would have the deed in a few more days. Then I heard nothing for another few weeks despite follow up emails. After threatening to end the relationship again, I finally got a draft deed (again with tons of typos and errors that were seemingly carried over from the previous documents). After again sending back my list of corrections, I heard nothing for weeks. At that point I officially ended my relationship with Reese Boyd and he sent me the corrected deed as a gesture of good will. Unfortunately, the deed was rejected by the register of deeds since he tried to combine two deeds of distribution into a single document, which is not allowed. So now I have to go find another lawyer since Reese is incompetent. After all of this, my entire retainer was used up (partially because the free consultation wasn't actually free, and partially because they are slow and charge for correcting their own mistakes). I thought about fighting this, but decided I didn't want to deal with these crooks anymore and get ghosted for weeks on end.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
