Funny Sense of Humor and can't respect time

I had a 4:00 pm appointment ( paid consultation ) with Robert Masella on 22nd April. I reached his office at 3:45 pm , filled out the paperwork and was ready by 3:55 ...he came to meet me at 4:20 pm ..some one tell him the meaning of appointment and respecting other people's time. While I was exp...laining him my divorce case involving a minor child , he kept cracking jokes at my cost , and he would say .." I am just teasing you"....someone tell him the seriousness of divorce from a minor child's perspective.... God help this man to get serious and sensitive about other people's problem , specially when he is charging $300 / hr to hear them and act upon.

This person showed up the day after their scheduled appointment. When he came to my office I was in court with another client. I returned to my office as quickly as I could to speak with this man. While he and I were talking about his situation, I learned he was represented by another attorney. I explained that our ethical code prohibited me from speaking with him about his case if he already had counsel. I explained the procedure he needed to follow if he wanted us to help him, and I also assured him he was in good hands with the attorney he already had. He was apparently seeing me because he was second guessing his current counsel which again causes us problems because I am sure he is the type of person who will go back to his attorney and tell them they are wrong and this is what I learned you need to do. This man had a lot of issues other than his custody matters. He wanted to change a California divorce decree and change custody of his minor child from the child’s mother to him here in South Carolina. He was trying to change his agreement from California because he did not like how things were working for him. This firm is extremely careful about handling delicate situations, including those involving children. This man was apparently very abusive to his former spouse and expected her and all around him to do as he said. When we told him we were prohibited from helping him until he followed the necessary procedures he stormed out of our office telling us he would be sure to let us know what he thought of our ethics. Unfortunately, although we have been able to accomplish a lot of good results for most of our clients, we cannot help everyone accomplish their goals; especially those who want to throw ethics to the wind and do whatever they want to force others to do what they want. I feel sorry for him as well as his son and ex-spouse. Please take this person’s review for what it’s worth. Please read all of our other client reviews that have been left to see the good work we have accomplished for them. We are proud to assist those who entrust us with the issues that impact their lives and we will be honored to assist you with your legal needs.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
