Biography
I have extensive courtroom experience and I am a dedicated advocate for my clients. I am committed to listening and understanding each of my clients' needs and am determined to secure the best outcome possible. I am admitted in three states (Florida, North Carolina, and Wisconsin). Additionally, I am admitted to the following Federal Courts, the United States District Court Southern District of Florida, United States District Court Western District of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals Fourth Circuit. I am a confident litigator armed with the tools necessary to defend your rights.
Before beginning with Cotney Construction Law, I began my career as a prosecutor with the 16th Judicial District in Florida (Monroe County, Florida Keys). I worked as a prosecutor for roughly 2.5 years before I transitioned into a career practicing criminal defense. In addition to criminal defense, I have practiced and have experience in Construction Law, Administrative Law, Insurance Defense, General & Auto Liability, Worker's Compensation, and Immigration Law. I have the skill set, experience, and personal knowledge to successfully advocate for my clients.
I previously served as the past President of Monroe County's chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. I have also presented on defending DUI/DWI cases, especially in regards to defending against breath test cases. Additionally, I have taught Certified Legal Education courses on Trial Advocacy and Jury Selection. I was a member of his local bar association as well as my local Rotary club. I was also a dedicated volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
