Christopher John Stevens

With his history of activism and public service, it’s not surprising that Chris Stevens was drawn to a law career where he could help people. He is passionate about helping those who are in need, especially military veterans who are fighting the Department of Veterans Affairs to get the benefits to which they are entitled.

Chris earned his juris doctor from the UNC School of Law. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor of science in business administration, double majoring in economics and marketing. While in law school, Chris won the Eugene Gressman & Daniel H. Pollitt Appellate Advocacy Award for Best Appellant Argument.

Chris is accredited by the VA to represent veterans and their families on appeals of their VA disability claims. He is also admitted to practice at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Representing veterans on VA claim appeals is his sole area of practice at the Deuterman Law Group.

He is committed to working on behalf of veterans, protecting their legal rights, ensuring they receive justice, and helping to improve their lives in the wake of injuries and disabilities incurred in or caused by their time in service.

Chris is the current secretary for the Military and Veterans Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, which coordinates state bar activities and initiatives impacting military and veterans. He is also a member of the National Organization of Veterans Advocates, a group whose membership includes attorneys and other advocates for disabled veterans.

As an attorney, Chris has done pro bono work as part of Elon Law’s Vet Your Records clinic for former military service members veterans, raised money for the Samaritan Ministries Penny Campaign and participated in firm-wide volunteer efforts.

In his free time, Chris enjoys following state and national politics, playing guitar, watching football and competing in trivia competitions.
