Nicholas Elliott Gordon

Nicholas is an Associate Attorney at the premier family law practice in West Virginia—Lyne Ranson Law Offices, PLLC.

Nicholas is a lifelong resident of West Virginia. Nicholas earned a Journalism degree from West Virginia University in 2014 while majoring in Public Relations and minoring in American Politics and Policy. Nicholas then went on to earn his law degree from WVU College of Law in 2018. During his time in law school, Nicholas was elected to his law school’s Ethics Committee and elected as President of the Black Law Students Association.

After graduating, Nicholas began his legal career at a civil defense litigation firm in Charleston, WV, before he moved on to practicing criminal defense at his local public defender office, where he became passionate about the practice of law in Family Court. Nicholas now devotes one hundred percent of his career to being a family law practitioner.

After being a full-time family law practitioner for only three (3) months, Nicholas argued and won a complex issue involving Qualified Domestic Relations Order on appeal before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals in early 2023.

In addition to representing clients in the courtroom, Nicholas is also a very active member of his state bar. Nicholas spent two years as the elected African American Representative on the WV Bar’s Young Lawyer Board prior to being promoted to the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyer Board, which he will preside over during the 2025-2026 year. Nicholas also has a leadership role with the State Bar’s Minority Lawyer Committee, recently authoring an article on the Committee’s behalf for the WV Lawyer Magazine.

Outside of the practice of law, Nicholas is a Director for Footprint Outreach, Inc.—a local nonprofit founded by his younger brother whose mission is to provide resources and support to WV’s homeless community.

In his spare time, Nicholas loves to travel and loves to hang out with his family and their many dogs. He also loves to kayak, hike, and explore the natural beauty of his home state of West Virginia.
