Chapter 7 Bankruptcy 50%

More than half my bankruptcy practice involves filing Chapter 7 bankruptcies for people. I have been filing Chapter 7 cases since the 1980's. Chapter 7 cases often stop collection activity like garnishments, judgments, and harassing phone calls. Chapter 7 gives individuals a fresh start financially. I have also taught Bankruptcy classes at Tidewater Community College since 2005.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy 45%

I have also filed many, many Chapter 13 cases since the 1980's. Chapter 13 is a personal debt repayment plan administered by the Bankruptcy Court. The plans are usually 3 to 5 years long and require making a monthly payment to the Court Trustee. Chapter 13 cases are often used to stop foreclosures of houses and repossessions of vehicles. It can also be used to pay back taxes. Many people who do not qualify for Chapter 7 will be assisted by filing a Chapter 13 case as well.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
