We had the pleasure of Alex Bell handling an unprecedented speeding/reckless driving ticket for our son in Northampton County on the Eastern Shore for us. Typically, this area is notorious for strict jail time when a speeding ticket is in the reckless area as our son's happened to be. No exceptions. ...Mr. Bell was willing to take this unique case on and trial it on the first heard day. Unfortunately, our son was pulled over while attempting to take his own life making his way to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. While the officer had him pulled over, we had been actively on the phone for 20 + minutes with our locall 911 and State Police searching for him and his vehicle. The officer let him go after pulling him over, doing 99 mphs. Our son took the ticket and proceeded to still head to his destination to end his life. After getting back into his vehicle, the officer heard the call but still did not go back after our son. It took state police, other local agents, and EMS to save our sons life that day at the Bridge entrance. Alex Bell took the time to gather our time line, text messages, along with social media messages that our son had placed with the time line of the officer's stop to ensure that the judge hearing the case understood this was not a typical reckless young man, but a young adult with a sudden onset of a mental illness who was actually placed on a new medication just a week prior that was not working for him. Our son was able to get help in a facility for 38 days after this and is still on the mend. The judge, for the first time in his career, took the time to hear the case presented by Alex Bell and understood that placing our son in jail was not the right decision for the individual. Jail time would only add to an already weak mental state. He did, in fact, impose a 90-day license suspension to ensure our son has the time he needs to heal before he gets behind the wheel to possibly endanger himself or anyone else. Mr. Bell did an outstanding job presenting the case, and we would highly recommend him and the practice.
