Thomas Roger Chaffe

Tom is a general practice attorney and experienced litigator who represents individuals and businesses in the Richmond Metropolitan Area and surrounding jurisdictions. He began his career at the Office of the Public Defender for the City of Richmond, whereat he served as lead counsel in hundreds of cases to verdict.

Prior to attending law school, Tom served on active duty as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy and was twice deployed in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. His military decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, and various personal and unit commendations, medals, and awards.

He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Chesterfield County Bar Association, and the Greater Richmond Criminal Bar Association, the latter for which he served on the Board of Officers from 2009 to 2014 and as President from 2012 to 2013.

Appointed by the Governor to serve a three-year term, from 2013 to 2016, Tom was a Member of the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission. With an annual budget of $45 million, the Commission is the government body responsible for direct oversight of the state’s public defender system and for the appointment of qualified counsel to indigent persons accused of crimes that are punishable by incarceration or death.

In addition to being a fervent Virginia Tech alumnus, Tom is active in veterans’ organizations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 354. He is admitted to practice law before all state courts of Virginia.
