Should be charged with legal malpractice

A lawyer has a duty in all dealings with a client to act with honesty, good faith, fairness, integrity and fidelity. I hired Mr. Jimison to file for a final divorce after he was referred to me. I should have let it go after trying to get hold of him for weeks. I finally met him in his office where th...ere was no one but himself. He was in shorts. I paid him $400 to file. When the divorce was contested he asked for a retainer fee of $2,500. From that time on, the only time I would hear from Mr. Jimison was when he needed money. He would NEVER return a phone call, his email had automatic response that he was in court which seems to be all the time. Not one time did he give me any update on what was going on with the case. Then one day Mr. Jimison called and asked me to meet him urgently in his office (this was after I had finished paying the retainer fees). Mr. Jimison told me that we had a court appointment the next day. When I asked him why we were going to court, he told me that he didn't know. No kidding! Up to this point I had not seen a single document of communication between Mr. Jimison and the defendant's Attorney. We I showed up in court Mr. Jimison came to me with a proposal from the defendant attorney to settle the case. I was in utter shock because I was completely unaware that this is why we came to court. Mr. Jimison apparently knew exactly what was going on but didn't tell me. He came to me and said " I will kill you if you don't accept this offer". Again, I was in utter shock. Apparently Mr. Jimison later submitted a non modifiable settlement to court, signed it without my approval or review and NEVER even sent me a copy of the settlement. I never even received a copy of the settlement after Mr. Jimison had received a copy from the court. It was only after I had received another letter to appear in court that I found a copy of the document in my mailbox (without postage stamp) . I had to appear in court to defend myself on a judgment that I had not even received the draft or final documents from my Attorney. The court judge laughed at me when I told him I had not seen any documents and proceeded to slap me with the defendant's attorney's fees. Despite numerous phone calls and emails, I never had from Mr. Jimison. It became apparent to me earlier in the case that Mr. Jimison appeared to have a lot of issues going on especially personal including finances that he occasionally complained about. It never occurred to me that the level of negligence and incompetence would run so deep. Apparently he did absolutely nothing with my case until he must have received a letter for us to appear in court. At that point he had no choice but to get me to agree to some settlement to save his neck. He even went further to sign the final documents and submitted them to court without my approval. I have since been bound for the next 10 years by court documents that I never even had a chance to approve. To think that an individual who was supposed to represent me in good faith would do this to me has been devastating. The sad thing is that there seems to be nothing that I can do about it. it's a shocking true experience. It is a shame that Mr. Jimison may still be out there doing this kind of stuff to other clients. Someone once said that given a choice between being innocent and having a good lawyer, you're better off with a good lawyer. This guy is definitely not someone you want n your corner under any situation. Shame on him for what he did to me.

Easy Fast Affordable

He is very responsible, knowledgeable, responsive, straight to the point, dynamic, awesome communicator and trustworthy. Confidentiality and professionalism are always there. His guidance and support helped me a lot. Every time I had questions he would always respond via email or by phone. The prices... were great and the process went pretty fast. He has the best sense of humor and makes you feel he'll defend your rights with his life. I would strongly recommend him and wish him the best in his career.

My secret weapon for litigation.

After a company that I consulted for refused to pay me my many unpaid invoices, I decided to file suit. Ive had to do this once before and the company ended up settling before the court date. I assumed thats how this was going to go. Turns out, I was wrong. They took the case to trial. At this point ...I realized this was WAY over head and decided to find counsel. Shane was speedy at our communication before trial and made sure I knew what to expect come court day. The trial arrived, I was so nervous I felt sick but Shane was cool as a cucumber. Some last minute evidence was brought up by the defense but he was confident as always. Trial was a breeze. Shane knew all the right questions to ask, when to object, and what to say. I can honestly say that without him as my attorney, I don't think I would have received judgement in my favor for the full amount. He will continue to be my go-to counsel from now on. Very professional, trustworthy, efficient, and an all around nice guy.

Solid attorney, a real straight shooter

Shane assisted me with gathering information on some out-of-state divorce issues, and most recently handled a divorce for a very close friend of mine. He understood that my friend was dealing with limited resources, and gave some helpful advice about how to best file given the circumstances. He man...aged to deal with a uncooperative spouse and turned what could have been an adversarial proceeding into a relatively smooth and pain-free process. Shane also is great at responding almost immediately when called upon (which is why I find some of the other reviewers' comments somewhat surprising). I've spoken with other clients of Shane's who would also vouch for his conduct and integrity. I would highly recommend Shane to handle legal issues within his scope of expertise in Virginia.

A bad attorney is worse than no attorney.

This review is to prevent any others from experiencing a similar situation. I will keep it to bullet points so as to remain dispassionate. -Hired Mr. Jimison in May 2011 and by November 2011 he still was unable to even get a hearing. -My ex-spouse missed the "answer deadline" by nearly 3 month...s, but Mr. Jimison failed to act as well, so instead of getting a default judgment her attorney was able file an answer almost three months later. -I have tens of unanswered emails and he did not return a single phone call until I threatened to go the Virginia State Bar. -He did not respond to my emails in writing. Thus you cannot hold him to any commitments. -I corrected the divorce complaint he drafted, and then the complaint he filed still had the mistakes in it which I previously corrected. -He told me he filed my divorce decree in September and that I was very close to being divorced. When I emailed him two weeks later to inquire he did not respond. When I emailed him three weeks later he did not respond. Now on October 31st (almost 8 weeks later) I still have not status and don't know if my case is even with the judge. -After dealing with Mr. Jimison's complacency on my case since May, on October 31st 2011, I have decided to hired another attorney. -I will update this review to see how long it takes to forward my case file. -The phone answering service for Mr. Jimison is unreliable. -Mr. Jimison had every opportunity to complete my case and even had a no show from the "opposing team" the issue was he did not pay attention, did not return calls, or do due diligence. There was some procedural issue which Mr. Jimison had with the filing and I feel he was not forthright about it. -He claims that the volume of cases he does makes him some type of expert, but I found that he was unable to dedicate time to the particulars of my case. -Mr. Jimison is elusive. Again after threatening to complain he began to return phone calls but then he would act like nothing was wrong. "Hi, how is it going?" -After, failing to take action on my case and under the threat of reporting him, he then tells me that my ex-spouse filed an answer to the divorce complaint. She was served in June and given three weeks to answer. In September her attorney files an answer. Mr. Jimison did not even bother to tell me when he received the answer until almost a week later. At that point in time he offered to refund my money. The bottom line was he did not deliver what he said he could. My opinion: Mr. Jimison cannot give individual attention. He cannot deal with particular situations. He has no office to help him an it shows in the quality of his work. He may be able to help if you have no pressing issues and it's almost a divorce you could handle yourself. If you care about your case and want updates and returned phone calls. I do not recommend Mr. Jimison. I was very frustrated with him and felt that I should have gotten another attorney months ago, but he continued to string me along as though he was going to be able to do something and what is worse he spoke just that way, "you are so close to getting divorced". That was my fault. I will be taking my complaint to the Virginia State Bar.
