I practiced law in the Boston area for over 20 years before moving to Virginia in 1999 to help care for my parents, so I have experienced many of the challenges my clients and their loved ones address in the estate planning process. For that reason, I can speak from personal experience when I counsel clients about the benefits of estate planning, and the difference good planning and sound documents can make to those who find themselves caring for family members. I was a teacher before I was a lawyer, and know that 'knowlege is power' so I try to spread the word and simplify planning concepts to help folks understand what they can do to protect themselves and their family members before a crisis strikes.
In addition to speaking before various civic, retirement, church, alumni and colleges (some of which are listed on this site), I enjoy teaching an advanced estate planning seminar as an Adjunct Professor at the Marshall-Wythe Law School of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. If you are interested in having a speaker at your group or organization, please let me know!
When I'm not in my office or guest speaking, my husband and I take advantage of our proximity to the Chesapeake Bay on our sailboat. As for many others in our area, boating can be a great source of relaxation.

Client Review
As a Financial Advisor I am always looking for Competent and Professional people to refer my clients to for services that I don't provide. This includes Attorneys, CPA's, Physicians and yes even mechanics. I started working with Susan about three years ago and was so impressed with her that I asked h...
"I have had the privilege of knowing Susan through our affiliation with the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. I can attest to the high level of her legal knowledge, ethical sensibilities and sincere desire to help her clients. I confidently endorse this lawyer."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Susan for many years as a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys even back to her practice in Massachusettes. She is a caring person and makes the difficult issues easy for clients to understand. I would not hesitate to refer a client to her."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. I had the opportunity to work with Susan on a multi-year estate file that involved geographically separated family members. She exhibited a high degree of professionalism while balancing the competing interests of the estate and those of the family, including a minor's interest in that estate. Susan exhibited uncommon patience in working through the clients' emotionalism and helping steer the matter towards a resolution that kept the family, the court and the commissioner of accounts satisfied. With her vast knowledge of estate law and open demeanor, Susan is the type of lawyer to whom you would feel comfortable sending a bereaved individual or elderly person in need of estate planning assistance."
"I have consulted and worked with Susan on numerous occasions, going back to her days in Massachusetts, when she handled a matter in Mass for some of my Virginia clients. Susan's character is beyond reproach, and her concern for her clients is paramount. On top of that, her knowledge regarding estate planning, administration and related matters is encyclopedic. She's a top-notch attorney who will get the job done, and I endorse Susan without qualification."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. I have known Susan since 2001. She is extremely well versed in the latest estate planning and asset preservation techniques. Her unique ability to connect with the client on a professional and personal level allows her the opportunity to build lifetime relationships with clients who become friends."
