William W. Stanton VII is an aggressive and dedicated Virginia criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor who fights to protect the rights and freedom of clients facing criminal and traffic charges. As the founder of Stanton Law, he defends individuals throughout Virginia.

With more than a decade of experience as a prosecutor for the Commonwealth, Mr. Stanton brings insider knowledge and extensive courtroom skill to every case. He knows how the state builds cases and how to challenge them effectively.

Born and raised in Richmond, Mr. Stanton graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies, earning the second-highest GPA in his class. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law as a John Marshall Scholar, the school’s most prestigious scholarship. He was inducted into the Order of the Coif and the McNeil Law Society, served on Law Review, and received awards for Advanced Trial Practice.

Before founding Stanton Law, Mr. Stanton served more than ten years as a criminal prosecutor, handling cases ranging from violent felonies such as murder, arson, and malicious wounding to DUI, reckless driving, and other traffic offenses. His prosecutorial experience gives him a comprehensive understanding of how cases are built, investigated, and tried, an advantage he now uses to defend his clients.
