Many Thanks to my Lawyer

Dale Sanders represented me in an auto accident claim in which I was the injured party. Mr. Sanders represented me in a professional manner and acted tirelessly in seeking me the best financial results. He kept in constant contact and encouraged me to ask any questions that I had. I am very grateful ...for all the hard work that Mr. Sanders put towards my case and I am very pleased with my settlement.

Civil Litigation

I was referred to Mr. Sanders from a former boss and found him to be very knowledgeable, highly professional and detailed oriented. He guided me through a complex process to accurately identify and document expenses that supported my case; and planned a strategy to maximize a favorable outcome. Throu...gh his detailed analyses of my corporate records and his understanding of the law he was able to negotiate an optimum outcome on my behalf. The settlement included an initial partial payment with monthly payments secured with a property lien. Mr. Sanders kept me informed of the status of the case, as well as conversations with opposing counsel and shared all relevant documents.

I cannot recommend this attorney

I deeply regret hiring this attorney and would not do so again. I retained Sanders to assume legal representation in a discrimination and retaliation action in 2013. I voluntarily gave him a 50% contingency as compensation plus he was allowed to collect fixed payments of $1140 per month. His performa...nce of the legal representation was not what I expected. When he took over the representation, he withdrew the discovery requests of previous counsel and propounded his own discovery requests. He also incurred time and expense amending the original complaint. While he defended the 2 depositions scheduled by opposing counsel, despite my repeated requests, he failed to notice and schedule depositions of key witnesses. While he held that the discovery obtained from the opposing counsel was deficient, he never attended the Rule 37 meeting required by DC to address discovery shortfalls. Despite orders by the Court that the parties should not expect additional extensions in the discovery schedule, he moved for a second extension of case deadlines (on the last day of discovery!) stating that he needed time to obtain additional discovery and that depositions would be forthcoming. This request was denied by the Court within two weeks. The DC Superior Court held in Orders denying Sanders request for a second extension that any failures of Sanders to get the required discovery was due to tactical choices made by Sanders during his legal representation of me. Shortly thereafter, the case settled with no dollar amounts awarded. But it gets worse much worse. Literally within days of the settlement, despite the contract explicitly stating that Sanders was to be compensated on a 50% contingency (which I gave him – the standard appears to be 33 1/3 %) Sanders hired a friend and tried to sue me in Alexandria Circuit Court claiming that he was owed an hourly fee, ultimately demanding over $100,000. This was in violation of the parties’ agreement to arbitrate any dispute over fees under governing Bar Rule XIII. On Sanders requirement to arbitrate, in an email on October 1, 2013 Sanders falsely informed me that (1) under the DC arbitration program his consent was required for any arbitration and (2) he did not give his consent. In December 2017 the Alexandria Court - after 4 years of expensive litigation – agreed with me and ruled that any dispute over refunds due was required to be heard in arbitration in DC before the DC ACAB. But perhaps most alarmingly he continues to harangue me in emails to my home email address and my work email address. His latest "nasty gram" in June 2018 revealed that 5 years later he knew intimate details of my life including my living arrangements and recent employment activity. Very disturbing. I absolutely do not recommend.

Replied last December 03, 2015

This review was posted by an ex client in response to my lawsuit against him seeking payment for past due invoices. I was the third lawyer to take his case after he dismissed the first two. At the last minute before mediation in his case against his employer, he directed me to withdraw his demand for a monetary settlement of any amount. Against my advice, he settled (ended) his case by leaving money on the table when he refused to accept any monetary offer made by his employer - opponent before mediation. His last lawyer on this case before me, had sued his employer for one million dollars --a value I did not adopt. His description of my handling of the case is inaccurate.

"I endorse this lawyer. Dale and I were partners for a few years, so I had a chance to see his work close at hand. Since then, I have referred many difficult cases to him, cases that I simply would not know how to handle. Usually the cases I send him involve the government or some institution violating someone's rights. These are usually the cases that make me want to do something to help, so I send them to Dale, knowing that if there is a way for this person's rights to be vindicated, he will find it. The feedback I have gotten has always been very positive. He is not only a zealous advocate, but a scholar with a creative mind. I unhesitatingly recommend him to you."
