DEDICATED, COMPASSIONATE, AND DETAILED FAMILY LAWYER, COMMITTED TO YOU IN NORTHERN VA. CALL TODAY!

Cassandra Chin is a Partner with Nichols Zauzig and joined the firm in 2001, the first job of her career. Since then, she has become a leader in Virginia family law, earning both the respect of her peers and the gratitude of clients.

Cassandra has built her career on going beyond 100% for every client. As a result, her busy practice is based on referrals – from former clients, other attorneys, judges, even opposing parties. Many people also find and request her after reading the dozens of detailed reviews that her clients share online.

While devoted to her practice, Cassandra is also committed to developing the family law profession. Early on, she got involved with local and state bar associations. Ultimately, she became the youngest person to serve on the Board of Governors for the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section, later becoming Chair. On a national level, she was one of the youngest fellows when she was accepted into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), after meeting their stringent membership criteria. She is now a 2nd Vice President serving on the organization’s National Executive Committee, as well as Immediate Past President of the AAML Virginia Chapter. For the Prince William County Bar Association, Cassandra served as Co-Chair of the Family Law Committee from 2007 - 2023. Her service to the family law community earned her the Virginia State Bar Family Law Service Award in 2023.

Cassandra knew as early as 10 years old that she wanted to become a lawyer. In fact, she made a pact with her cousin to open and run a law firm together. Even though he is not part of the same firm, her cousin is also a practicing attorney.

Cassandra majored in business at James Madison University and contemplated going into corporate law, but “family law found me,” she says. It was while clerking for Judge Richard Potter that she was drawn to divorce and child custody cases. What was the attraction? “When it comes to cases involving kids, you can really help the family get through a tough time in a way that leaves everyone with respect for one other,” she says.

Family law also appealed to her business background, given the considerable financial aspects involved when dividing marital assets.
“I’m very practical and tell clients my true opinion. We look at things from a cost/benefit approach. It’s important they have realistic expectations.”
But first and foremost, Ms. Chin helps her clients understand the divorce process in plain English that they can understand. “I recognize divorce is a strange and new experience for most people and really do try to guide my clients through it with that in mind.”

Accepting nothing less than the best from herself and those who work with her is what drives Cassandra to excel. “If I’m going to do something, it’s going to be done to the best of my ability…plus. I have certain expectations for my work product, and I have to meet my own expectations.”

Superb Professionalism and Communication
My mother hired Ms. Chin after spending almost a year with another lawyer who was unresponsive and dragging his feet every step of the way. Ms. Chin was able to get a resolution for my mother in less than six months - enabling my 72-year-old mother to get on with her life. I helped my mother throughout this entire process and definitely would recommend Ms. Chin. Her communication with us was extraordinary. Her professionalism and personal demeanor helped put my mother at ease. She did everything in a timely fashion and never left us guessing what would happen next. My mother's situation was a very complicated one, and Ms. Chin helped us navigate through tough times. We had to handle much of this over the phone as my mother lives more than 2 hours away from Ms. Chin's office; however, that went very smoothly and we were made to feel like we were right there with her. Her assistant, Renee Rogers, was extremely professional, courteous, and responsive to our needs. Both Ms. Chin and Ms. Rogers were a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend them both.

Family Law
I hired a horrible attorney and I fired him and immediately hired Mrs. Chin. She was amazing. She was able to get me majority of everything I wanted. Even when my situation began to escalade she kept me together. She is very professional and is definitely worth the money. I will and have recommended people to see her. She communicates with you and is very attentive. She has a strong team and her assistant Renee Rogers is awesome as will. She mad time for me and my family and communicated with me every step of the way!

Mr
Nichols Zauzig, and in particular Cassandra Chin, has handled my family law situation for several complicated cases. Initially, I attended a seminar given by Mr. Nichols and he gave me confidence that the firm works hard for their clients. This proved to be especially true regarding Ms Chin. She is extremely well versed in Virginia family law, devotes the needed time and energy to the case, and far out classed the opposing counsel. She kept me well informed of the status of my case, presented options of how best to proceed, and every time we had a discussion I felt better about where I stood. I highly recommend Nichols Zauzig and specifically Ms Chin for any family law situation.

Best Family Law Attorney, Hands Down
Cassandra Chin came highly recommended and I’m grateful for the recommendation. I retained her services for a post-divorce custody issue and both her and her whole team are smart, responsive, realistic, compassionate, and just so good at what they do. You're in excellent, highly capable hands from start to finish. Questions are always answered. I always knew exactly what was going on in our case. And you can tell just how respected she is in her field. Our case was resolved fairly and efficiently. It sounds odd to say when you are dealing with family law, but I enjoyed my time working with Cassandra and her team. While I hope to not have to retain her services again (knock on wood), I would 100% be a repeat client.

Glad she was there when I needed her
I was given Nichols Zauzig a few years ago as I contemplated a divorce. I’m thankful that I had their number because I suddenly needed them. My ex had her attorney send me an email telling me she wanted a divorce. Cassandra Chin urged me to try to work out a settlement agreement with my ex, but it is no surprise we couldn’t work anything out ourselves. Just before we went into a settlement meeting between the 2 attorneys and my ex, my ex pulled her original (untenable) offer and submitted an offer even worse. Cassandra called me before sending me the new offer and and told me not to worry because the new offer was against Virginia statute in several areas. She assured me that I would do better than the original offer my ex had just pulled. She was absolutely correct in her assessment. We got a much better deal and made a few nominal concessions early in the meeting that paid dividends later. Though I got divorced later in life and my ex had no savings or investments of her own, I will be able to retire thanks in no small part to Cassandra’s guidance. I thought we worked well together and I owe my future to her.

Best experience in a tough situation
I recently found myself in need of a divorce attorney. Someone who was familiar with the military and who could assist me even several states away. Cassandra Chin was very knowledgeable and professional, and was quick to respond to my questions. I expected this situation to be very stressful, however Cassandra Chin was there to reassure me, explain the processes, and to keep me informed as the situation unfolded. Her communication was always on point and timely. Thankfully, my children are grown, but I know Cassandra was prepared to find the most satisfactory solution for any and all parts of this process. I recommend Cassandra Chin and the Nichols Zauzig Firm wholeheartedly.

An Absolutely Outstanding Attorney!
I was involved in a very contentious divorce. Thankfully a friend recommended I call Nichols Zauzig. Ms. Casandra Chin represented me and I could not be happier with her counsel. Cassie, and her outstanding staff, were extremely insightful, professional and patient. They provided guidance on details I would have never thought of and very helpful advice in the gathering of the materials necessary for the best outcome. Through their outstanding work, I was able to attain a settlement agreement far more favorable than I ever expected which also avoided the time and additional expense of a trial. Thank you, Ms. Chin and the excellent staff of Nichols Zauzig.

Smart, Organized and Effective Lawyer - Highly Recommend!
I was seeking a new lawyer since the previous one I had been working with had retired. I decided to retain Cassandra Chin at Nichols Zauzig Sandler because she was direct, concise and straightforward. I believed she would do her best to support me legally after my initial consultation with her. She represented me well on numerous cases over the past few years and isn't into putting on a good "show" for her client but rather works to get results. Cassandra was informative, concise and effective in guiding me to what available options there were to me on my case. She also provided guidance when potential options were not going to have a high chance of success as well as took the time to support my schedule and to be flexible in meetings that were important to my case. I highly recommend her as both an ethical lawyer and a respectable professional for anyone in need of a good lawyer. Having worked with 4 different lawyers prior to being referred to Nichols Zauzig Sandler I can say that there are definitely some BAD lawyers out there. You will not find a bad one at NZS. I only wish I had found them earlier as I'm confident that my case would have resolved itself sooner and more efficiently

She is the Best!!!!
I was struggling through my divorce, going through an emotional, long and never ending legal battle. I finally had to find a different attorney. After consulting with various attorneys, I was referred to Ms. Cassandra Chin. Cassandra is wonderful. She took the time to explain thoughtfully every nuances of my rights and the Law in a language that I can understand. She was very patient with me and my questions, always letting me know what was going without having to ask for updates. She was thorough and quick to respond, moving the process expeditiously. She has the combination of extreme professionalism and yet very endearing and approachable. She looked you in your eye and you know and feel she will work hard for you. Cassandra took the burden off my shoulders from the first we met in her office until the end. She gave me the confidence and peace of mind that allowed me to heal and focus on other priorities in my life. I can't thank Cassandra and her exceptional team enough on what they have giving me and my family, which is a refreshing new start. She is one of a kind and the best!!!

Superb counsel!
Cassandra came to me highly recommended. She was the consummate professional and provided pragmatic counsel throughout our engagement. She did a great job at every critical juncture of ensuring I separated emotion from fact and always did an excellent job of helping me understand legal complexities through lay terms. When Cassandra is in action there is no question who she is representing. She's fair, balanced, trustworthy and when she says she's going to do something you can count on her to do so. Cassandra and her professional reputation is held in very high regard in the legal community and state in which she practices. She an active member of the Virginia Bar and gives of her time in many ways to the community and Association. I would recommend Cassandra's legal services to anyone in need of great counsel, in or outside the courtroom.

Best Lawyer I've ever worked with
I'm leery of lawyers, especially divorce lawyers. But Cassandra put those concerns to rest. She is singularly professional and focused not on squeezing every last dollar out of a client, but rather providing high-quality service with the client's best interests at heart. She provides sound, well-thought-out advice and counsel. I will return to employ her services in the future, and would heartily recommend her to anyone in need of her professional services.

During my evaluation process of lawyers, I found that other lawyers spoke very highly of Cassandra Chin. This respect amongst peers was well deserved duing my personal experience being repressented by Mrs. Chin. She demonstrated the highest level of professionalism and provided me excellent advise and counsel to keep me level-headed during difficult and emotionally charged times. Throughout the entire time working together, I felt Cassandra Chin looked after my long-term best interest, often suggesting the pragmatic option that would save money and deliver the best result. Experienced, Trustworthy Attorney - Highly Recommended
I was referred to Nichols Zauzig Sandler by a local judge. My second marriage had unraveled and was headed for divorce which prompted my first wife to file for custody of my daughter. I was going to need someone to represent me on both fronts, and I knew that Cassandra was the right person for the job. From the moment I met her, I knew she would always have my best interest in mind. From the initial consultation, Cassandra was the consummate professional. She took copious notes and made sure she understood what it was that I wanted before offering up solutions. In every interaction, she readily recalled the details of my case and made reasonable judgements and assumptions as situations came up. She was a trusted adviser and helped me stay focused as she crafted reasonable solutions on my behalf. Her briefs, motions, and other legal documents were first-class and of the highest quality. She always presented a compelling argument and exuded complete confidence in the courtroom. Her personal dedication and commitment to my case exceeded all of my expectations. Lastly, Cassandra also has a supporting cast that makes it seem like you are her only client. Hats off to Renee, Gayna and Darby who were always courteous and attentive. Collectively, you all may have very well saved my life. Thank you, Eric

Disappointment ended in termination...
I hired Ms Chin back in February 2020 to represent me in my divorce (which does not involve children/custody) but had to terminate her services 1 year later without my divorce being over. Interestingly, I hired Ms Chin based on a positive online review among other reasons. Now here I am, posting a review of my own. To begin with, neither my spouse nor I received the initial letter Ms Chin stated she sent to both of us to the two separate addresses informing him that she was retained by me. When I emailed 4 weeks later to find out the status of my case, I was charged for the email response attaching a “courtesy copy” of the letter that neither my spouse nor I ever received. Ms Chin finally sent my spouse a follow-up to the letter 3 months later! Later, when I reached out to my spouse about financial support. His reply was, “You might want to follow up with your lawyers since they have not done anything since you and I gave them our information. I am sure they keep charging you...”. He was correct. I had informed Ms Chin of my disappointment and dissatisfaction with how my case was being handled even before his response. Not only did Ms Chin cost me considerable time and money scheduling/postponing/cancelling hearings, I was also bombarded with costly and redundant emails which I finally had to demand that she stop sending. I was also charged a hefty sum to draft an additional financial document that was not needed, and without my consent. When I found out, because my spouse’s lawyer retaliated with same, I told Ms Chin that I did not give her permission to do this and that I did not want it done. I was not reimbursed for this charge I did not authorize. Ms Chin also failed to include a pertinent requirement I wanted included in my Pendente Lite agreement, resulting in severe financial distress and anxiety. Ms Chin also failed to send me a revised document within the two weeks as promised. When I realized that over six weeks had gone by and Ms Chin still did not send the revised document, especially since I had nothing much to show for the $8,000 I had spent so far, I felt that it was not in my best interest to continue to retain Ms Chin. This, coupled with Ms Chin’s handling of my case from the onset, resulted in my decision to terminate her service. Also, I recently found out from my spouse’s attorney that he had discussed mediation with Ms Chin. However, Ms Chin did not to mention this to me, though I am/would have been receptive to mediation.
