Jonathan Rhayader Oates

Mr. Jonathan Oates was able to do what most lawyers were not able to remotely guarantee (and believe me when I say I consulted with many). Mr. Oates was able to make a deal with prosecutors to drop (nolle prosequi) all 4 possession of marijuana charges of mine. He has wide knowledge on laws and was v...ery careful about my final disposition because of my immigration status. He truly made sure that I stay in this country, It was refreshing speak to a professional who was not only knowledgeable on his area of expertise, but up to date on laws in general. i was wrongly accused of some very serious controlled dangerous substance offenses (which have very extensive prison sentences if convicted), first in district court and then again in circuit court. I hired Mr. Jonathan Oates to represent me as a criminal defense attorney. From day one he was very st...raight forward and honest with me and made sure i knew the ins and outs of my case as well as making me aware of exactly what i would be dealing with as far as court, preparation and execution of the facts that would ultimately clear my name. We reviewed my case over and over and over lol. Whenever i came to the office to go over the case, he was very hospitable and always ready to work as if his own life was on the line. Jonathan is a very diligent man, and wont take a minute off until bases have been covered and progress has been made with your case. He thoroughly investigated every angle, every detail, every word in my case. Nothing was left up to faith, or chance but rather sheer will, hardwork and preparation, and effectiveness. Jonathan was able to get my case dismissed in district court, one year later the charges were brought back up as i was indicted in circuit court . I then rehired him immediately and we went right back into the case. He never doubted me or made me feel like we weren't ready. The process was tiring and required a great deal of execution. Whenever i drug my feet he was there pushing me forward. My favorite quote of Jonathan is "WE CANT AFFORD TO LET THAT STOP US". Jonathan was able to get my case dismissed by the circuit court judge, due to lack evidence as well as a lead detective in the case not following the orders given to him by the judge. Him and i still talk and check on each other from time to time, he makes sure my family is good and that im in good spirits. I thank God for this man, and would highly recommend him to anyone who wants a lawyer who will represent them as if they were closely related or great friends. I met Mr. Oates shortly after being arrested for a myriad of drug related offenses, of which carried a hefty jail sentence in the state of Virginia. I was 23 years old and a recent college dropout who had lost my way in life and turned to an escape of drugs and alcohol as a means to cope with the pre...sent state of my life. When I was arrested I had little hope in my future, let alone a course of action to deal with my impending legal troubles. I had always thought the measure of an attorney was dependent on their connections in the legal world and how expensive they were to hire. Mr. Oates showed me that the best attorneys are the ones with absolutely perfect and professional ability in and outside the courtroom. The best attorneys are the ones who not only, in terms of a criminal defense attorney, work to get a client out of trouble, but also strive to do what they can to make their clients' lives flourish. My mother was originally referred to Mr. Oates through a friend, and after meeting him for the first time I knew I was in good hands, even with the charges I was facing. We would have a year until my sentencing and Mr. Oates already had a plan of action mapped out that would not only get me out of trouble but would also help push me into a life worth living, completely opposite to that I was living prior to my arrest, granting me a new lease on life. Mr. Oates is an attorney I truly admire. Always working weekends, always putting his clients first, always doing more than what I had always envisioned a lawyer does. I will always remember the day of my sentencing, filled with anxiety and stress after waiting an entire year for this very day. I knew I did all I could and that anything else was out of my hands. It was the most anxious and stressful day of my life, and being the last case and waiting in the court room for 8 hours only maximized that stress or anxiety. That is until they called my case and Mr. Oates started a monumental performance that made me speechless. It was like a scene out of a movie, flawless and perfect, and I could not see any error in what he was presenting to the court. More importantly, when he stood up and started, it put me at ease and I was reminded that I was in good hands. I left the courtroom that day with probation and a suspended jail sentence, and with a gratitude I cannot measure for Mr. Oates. With his amazing ability as an attorney, I was given a second chance, and a new lease on life, which has allowed me to continue on into the future with the progress I had just started that past year. Following the court case I have been able to return to my education, where I have graduated with a 4.0 grade point average, honors, and multiple awards, and will continue doing the same well into the future, taking my education further into a PhD/doctoral program. Without the magnificent legal guidance, hard work, and perseverance of Mr. Oates, this would not have been possible.
