The Baltimore Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals have granted in absentia and sua sponte motions to reopen that Mr. Chicas has filed on behalf of his clients, and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has approved stays of removal and prosecutorial discretion requests that he has filed for his clients’ benefit.
Maryland immigration lawyer Jimedes Chicas has also secured the approval of affirmative immigration benefits for his clients, including family based immigrant visa petitions, fiancée petitions, U visa petitions, VAWA petitions, SIJ petitions, petitions to remove the conditions of residence, as well as applications for naturalization and certificate of citizenship.
Mr. Chicas is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and currently serves as the AILA D.C. Chapter Liaison for the Baltimore USCIS District Office, as well as the Maryland State Bar Association, where he sits on the Immigration Section Council and serves as the Legislative Liaison. He is also a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Bar Association of Baltimore City, and the Maryland Immigrant Rights Coalition.
Mr. Chicas is a graduate of the University of Scranton. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, where he represented indigent clients as student attorney in the law school’s Immigration Clinic. He also served as the Executive Articles Editor for the Maryland Journal of International Law, an Asper Fellow for the Honorable Althea M. Handy, Circuit Court for Baltimore City, and a Legislative Law Clerk for Senator Ben Cardin in the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.
Mr. Chicas is a member of the state bar of Maryland and is admitted to practice law in the U.S. District Court for Maryland and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Attorney Chicas saved me from deportation. I came to attorney attorney Chicas when I already had a deportation order. He did not give me false hopes and was honest with me even when he said we may have to appeal the case to get the results we needed. I cannot thank him enough for what he did for me....
