A Very Disappointing Experience

Our experience with Kurt Roper was extremely disappointing, and based on our experience, we would not recommend him. We hired an attorney because we needed someone to guide us through a legal process we did not understand, know the details of our case, keep us informed, prepare for litigation, and... advocate for us. Instead, we found ourselves doing much of the legwork and repeatedly having to initiate communication just to find out where our case stood. My husband spent days researching, answering questions, providing information, and pointing out details relevant to our case. We provided Kurt with a substantial amount of information with the expectation that it would be reviewed, developed, and used to advocate for us. By the time we reached our pre-trial conference, however, we were left seriously questioning what all of that work had been for. Most concerning to us was the handling of our pre-trial statement. Our pre-trial conference was scheduled for August 11, 2026. Kurt's pre-trial statement on our behalf was dated August 10, the day before the conference. The following day, the Circuit Court struck the submission because it lacked the required certificate of service. Our experience the morning of the pre-trial conference only reinforced our concerns. Kurt told us he would meet us at the courthouse at 8:30 a.m. for our 9:00 a.m. conference. He arrived at approximately 8:57 a.m., leaving essentially no time to meet with us or prepare us beforehand. He then had to ask us questions about fundamental details of our damages that we believed he should have already known from preparing our case. Communication throughout the case was also disappointing. We were almost always the ones initiating contact and asking for updates. We did not feel that we were proactively kept informed about the status of our case or adequately guided through the process. Over the course of this case, we paid Kurt more than $13,000 in legal fees. For that level of expense, we expected our attorney to know the details of our case, communicate with us, be prepared when it mattered, and advocate for us. Instead, we walked away feeling that we had done much of the legwork ourselves and questioning what we had paid for. We fully understand that an attorney cannot guarantee the outcome of a case. Our dissatisfaction is not about receiving an outcome we did not want. It is about the quality of the representation we experienced. We hired an attorney because we expected professional guidance, preparation, communication, follow-through, and advocacy. After paying more than $13,000, we walked away feeling that we had done much of the work ourselves and, when it mattered most, that our attorney was not adequately prepared and did not go to bat for us. For those reasons, based on our experience, we cannot recommend Kurt Roper.
