Traumatic Experience

I researched attorneys to represent me in a very difficult custody. I came across Sahmra Stevenson and was impressed with her reviews. I met with Sahmra and really appreciated how genuine she seemed. She was young accomplished and seemingly thorough. I communicated very clearly my position in the cas...e and felt like communication was open and clear. As the case progressed I could feel tensions rising. While I understand trusting an attorneys legal advice, I also understand that as a paying client my concerns and wishes should be heard and at the very least we can come to an understanding as to how to proceed in my case. I began to feel like Sahmra believed my case would be easy and became flippant and inattentive when it came to my questions concerns about my case and her role in it. I was under an extreme amount of stress and could barely get through a work day without crying. Sahmra’s nasty toned emails did not help. It got to the point where I asked her to only email me during certain times because the exchanges were to upsetting. She ultimately removed herself from my case and communicated with me just enough to cover herself if her service came into question before a judge approved the removal. While she was still my attorney, instead of communicating to the other attorney my wishes In Her own words, she literally copy and pasted my words some of which I did not think was appropriate to share and was confidential. I was very hurt and disappointed. To add insult to injury, when I retained a new attorney he discovered that my case has been filed COMPLETELY wrong down to the formatting. Not only was the format for court documents incorrect the names, gender of my child, and incidents mentioned WERE ALL INCORRECT AND FROM ANOTHER CASE. What was turned in to the courts WAS NOT what I signed. What my child’s father saw was lies. He believed I made up false claims about him and I didn’t. While our case was full of emotion and difficult, I believe Sahmra’s work bordered on negligence and made a difficult situation even worse And if all of this wasn’t enough, she agreed to return a portion of the money I paid her and I was NEVER compensated. I truly hate to report her to the state bar association because, to be honest, I hate even thinking about the experience and I know very little would even be done. I hope this never happens to anyone else and while I won’t say don’t hire her I will say do so at your own risk.
