Peter Kim Hwang

A founding partner and principal of Sung & Hwang LLP, Peter K. Hwang represents his clients in a diverse array of civil litigation matters. From the firm's office in Columbia, Maryland, his varied practice includes intellectual property, fraud, banking, securities, construction, employment, personal injury and insurance law.

Mr. Hwang graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins University in 2002. He then went on to attend the American University Washington College of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 2005. After law school, Mr. Hwang initially worked as an associate attorney at Baker Botts LLP in Washington, D.C. His work there included securities, white collar and general civil litigation matters, and he represented his clients around the country in both federal and state courts. He left that firm to co-found Sung & Hwang LLP, bringing along the skill and experience he gained there. Mr. Hwang is admitted to practice before all Maryland and New York state courts.

Mr. Hwang has been able to achieve numerous successful results for his clients throughout his career. In one case, he obtained a dismissal of a lawsuit filed against his clients through which the plaintiff was seeking $5.7 million in damages. He also won a defense verdict in a civil fraud case that was filed against his textile company client. As lead counsel on a case involving wrongful termination, Mr. Hwang won a motion to dismiss. Mr. Hwang obtained a settlement on a sexual harassment case involving members of the United States military, and he also won a motion to dismiss on a case that alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
