Larry Burch, is a successful trial attorney and former Navy JAG Officer. Over the past 25 years, Mr. Burch has represented clients in cases involving civil and criminal litigation; including complex divorce and child custody matters, high-dollar medical malpractice and personal injury cases, corporate civil litigation as well as military personnel matters.  He has appeared on Fox 5 News and WUSA-TV 9 as a commentator on military law issues.  In recent years, Mr. Burch has focused primarily on family law cases and military matters.  In 2016, Mr. Burch wrote a book called "Understanding Military Divorce Law" (Aspitore Press, 2016) -- a guide for negotiating divorce and family law issues from start to finish for military families.

Mr. Burch was born and raised in Washington, D.C. (1981 Wilson High School).  He earned his Bachelor’s degree (in English with honors) from the University of Maryland, College Park.  In 1991, Mr. Burch graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law (one of the nation’s top 25 law schools where he a member of The Iowa Law Review and a Case Editor on the Moot Court Board.  Following law school, Mr. Burch served as a Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Audrey Melbourne in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland.

In 1992, Mr. Burch became a member of the Maryland Bar and was commissioned as an Officer in the Navy’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG Corps).  During his four years of active duty military service, LCDR Burch was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal for outstanding work as a trial attorney. Working as senior defense counsel at the Washington Navy Yard, LCDR Burch defended sailors and officers accused of a variety of crimes; including rape, child molestation, espionage, fraud, serious assault, gun-running, and numerous other crimes. He served as Senior Defense Attorney and Department Head of the Navy’s Legal Assistance Offices in the Washington, D.C. area (where he was in charges of providing legal services to military services members, dependents and retirees with the civilian and military legal issues).

After completing active duty in 1996, Mr. Burch began a solo law practice; however, he continued to serve as a Navy Reserve officer providing legal assistance to military families at the National Naval Medical Center and other legal services until 2007.  In total, Mr. Burch served 15 years as a Navy JAG Corps officer (both on active duty and as a drilling reservist). Since leaving the Navy, Mr. Burch has continued to represent military service members and dependents as a civilian attorney in both military and civilian legal issues.

Three years after starting his solo law practice in 1996, he began a partnership with his sister (Tobi Burch-Rates) called, The Law Office of Burch & Burch-Rates in Greenbelt, Maryland.  In the nearly 20 years since establishing his law firm in Greenbelt, Mr. Burch has successfully represented clients in a variety of legal matters; including, medical malpractice and auto accident cases involving wrongful death and severe disability claims, business and corporate litigation, family law and military personnel issues.  Mr. Burch is particularly experienced in working with military service members and their dependents on divorces, pensions, court-martials, security clearances, Admin and disability boards and in handling civilian legal issues.

In 2007, Rushern Baker (currently Prince George’s County Executive) joined Mr. Burch as a partner in The Law Office of Baker & Burch in Greenbelt, MD. After Mr. Baker’s successful election as County Executive in 2010, Mr. Burch and Ronald Voss, a former associate with Baker & Burch formed The Law Offices of Burch & Voss (adding offices in Towson and Bethesda).  Two years later, Mr. Voss moved on to establish his own law firm in Baltimore (The Voss Law Office). Mr. Burch continues to practice law in Maryland and D.C. as The Burch Law Firm, LLC, along with his staff, representing individuals and businesses in domestic, personal injury, civil, criminal, and military legal matters in Maryland and Washington D.C.

Mr. Burch is admitted to practice law before the highest courts in Maryland, the District of Columbia as well as before the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (CAAF).  He is also licensed to practice law before the U.S. District Court for Maryland and the District of Columbia as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court.  The Burch Law Firm currently has offices in Greenbelt and Bethesda and represents clients throughout the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area.

Mr. Burch and his team are very warming and knowledgeable. My case was on multpile issues but TEAMBURCH handled every issue accordingly. As a military member it feels good to know that we have representation in civil matters and he can relate as a veteran. From family law to criminal matters, TEAMBURCH was on point and took every approach and worked with me thourghly. Very reasonable on price but every minute counts when it comes to your matters.... Thank you TEAMBURCH!

Dog Bite
Larry Burch helped our family out with our dog Bullwinkle. He was seized by Montgomery County Animal Services for biting a man on our fenced in property. Unfortunately our dog was a way for seven weeks and we were unable to visit. This was a difficult time in our family for life especially to my son who had grown up with him. He was labeled as a dangerous dog and Larry was able to get my dog back to us before Christmas without going to court and no fines. The final outcome was he is a potentially dangerous dog and was able to come home. Thank you very much Larry!

Extremely Helpful, Honest and Sincere!!
I needed legal advice regarding the possibility of separation/divorce and wished to keep it private, so I used an online service that connects people with attorneys. My information was given to several attorneys, but Mr. Burch was the first one to reach out. The service I used stated that I would receive a free 30 minute consultation, then have to pay for additional advice. I was fine with this and scheduled an appointment. Mr. Burch and I connected via phone and he began asking questions like my name, phone number, address, etc. To be honest, the first thing I thought was this is how they (the attorneys) use up the initial "free" 30 minute consultation, then start charging you. HOWEVER, Mr. Burch continued to speak with me beyond the 30 min mark without skipping a beat. Mr Birch made sure to explain in detail, ALL possible options I had, as well the most likely outcome of each. This was very important to me, as young children are involved. Mr. Burch was patient, honest, and seemed to genuinely care about my situation and all parties involved. He did not try to force me into separation, divorce, or any other situation that would financially benefit him. Mr. Burch's advice was invaluable, and I guarantee that I will be using his firm should I end up moving forward with any legal action. In fact, I will be using Mr. Burch and his firm for any future situation that may require an attorney, not just family law. I highly recommend Mr. Burch for any legal needs you and/or your family may have.

I was so fortunate to have Attorney Burch represent me for my divorce. His level of skill and commitment helped me to get through the process and receive a level of favor that I really did not expect. He is professional, has a strong presence, and clearly exhibited his wealth of knowledge and expertise to evaluate my situation and then ensure my interest was served as best as possible. I appreciate the attention that he gave to my case. We left the court room as Winners! Attorney Burch is as exemplary attorney in many respects. Child Custody Case
I was referred to Mr. Burch by a former client of his. I spoke with Mr. Burch over the phone for consoltation and and shared my case and concerns with him. Mr. Burch shared with me some possible solutions and paths. After my phone conversation with Mr. Burch and based on reviews and recommendations, I scheduled a meeting with Mr. Burch. During the duration of my case from the first moment that I stepped in the office for our initial meeting I new that I have made the right choice. Mr. Burch is punctual, extremely detail oriented, patient, and dedicated to his clients. Mr. Burch took the time to listen to all of my conserns in regards to my case (over 6 years of history and information), reviewed all the details, eliminated irrelevant information, provided me with actionable steps in the best interest of my Son. I was always worried that I will be just another case for an attorney, but Mr. Burch took the time to know my son, may family and I in order to best assist me in my case. At that point I new that Mr. Burch was taking my case to hart and he understood that I am a father just trying to make a better life for my Son. I greatly appreciate all of his (Mr. Burch) work and will highly recommend him.

It was a Divorce case
I first contacted Larry Burch, after looking up his reviews on Avvo during my consultation, he provided the level of confidence I was expecting. He was thorough and did a great job of dealing with my husband's Attorney. We eventually agreed on a Mutual Separation which was great since it saved a lot of money and time. Excellent and powerful representation. Highly recommended. Thank you so much Larry Burch.

Aggressive law firm working on your behalf!
Larry and his staff work extremely diligently for the benefit of the client's needs. They are a small but personal law firm. I found him and the staff to be friendly, professional, supportive and patient when working with me. They have handled several cases for me, including a recent civil complaint. I trust them to honestly represent me and go over and beyond. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know.

Great Car Accident Attorney
Mr. Burch represented me after I was in a car accident and need physical therapy for my neck and shoulder. His paralegal was also very helpful and responsive. He got me a good settlement and I was happy with the outcome.

Exceptional, caring service at an affordable price
Mr. Burch dealt with a difficult situation with patience and took the time to strategize with our family to build the best defense possible. He had to pivot quickly during our hearing, and was as flexible as he could be in the changing circumstances of our case. He was available for input from the family, and worked to prepare those testifying quite well. None of us had been involved in this kind of case before, and he gave us a very good understanding of the challenges we had to meet.

"I endorse this lawyer. Larry, as a JAG lawyer was assigned to assist me as a civilian lawyer working on a criminal matter. He was incredible. Once he was out of the service he and I shared responsibility in numerous personal injury and malpractice cases where he was outstanding. We have also been on the opposite side of numerous military divorce cases where his knowledge and performance are exemplary. I am a retired JAG Captain and Military Judge, My endorsement of Larry Burch has one single drawback. I am encouraging the public to hire my strongest and best competitor."
