John Phillip Hotz

I am an experienced attorney and former recognized public interest advocate, committed to providing high-quality, affordable legal solutions to my clients. My practice focuses primarily on drafting Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) and other domestic relations orders (Civil Service, Military, Railroad) that divide retirement and other benefits incident to divorce. I also support the Family Law bar by assisting in drafting the retirement provisions in Marital Settlement Agreements for their clients. Unlike many of my colleagues, I come to this expertise through my lengthy experience as Pensions and Employee Benefits Attorney (rather than as an offshoot of a Family Law practice). I have been drafting, reviewing and editing Retirement Orders and Settlement Agreements over the entirety of my legal career.

I also assist families with their Estate Planning and Probate Administration needs. I have very much enjoyed developing this expertise since going into provate practice in 2011.  

Our offices are located in Rockville, Maryland. I am licensed in Maryland, the District of Columbia and California. I can also practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland and the Northern District of California; the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Fourth and Ninth Federal Circuits Fourth and Ninth Federal Circuits; and in the Supreme Court of the United States.
