Emily Beth Gelmann

Having grown up in a true “modern family,” I am intimately acquainted with challenging family dynamics and understand how families, and particularly children, can not only survive a divorce but thrive afterward. My personal and professional experience enables me to understand clients’ challenges and needs, to help them achieve their goals, and to ensure that they are able to move forward following a divorce. I handle family law matters, including divorce, custody and pre- and post-nuptial agreements for traditional and non-traditional families. As a trained mediator and certified collaborative divorce practitioner, I also enjoy working with clients interested in resolving their issues through alternative dispute resolution without the burden of costly complex divorce litigation. However, when litigation is unavoidable, I am equally adept at handling all aspects of each client’s case. I remains up to date on the latest developments and best practices in family law through my involvement in local and state bar associations, and as an Associate of the Inns of Court of Montgomery County. I currently serve as co-chair of the Bar Association of Montgomery County’s Community Outreach Section, organizing attorney volunteer events for Special Olympics Maryland and Shepherd’s Table. I focused on LGTBQ issues as an undergraduate and, while in law school, dedicated my studies to non-traditional families, with a concentration on intended parenthood and complex biological situations. I remain current on the ongoing development of familial structures, and have authored several articles on these topics.
