I was scammed by a coworker who we gave personal loans for a business with a promise to pay them back. He stole thousand of dollars from me and my family. In July 2020, I entered a contract to purchase a new home. I was parked and walking to sign the final documents on settlement day and received a call that the financing didn't go through. I asked for my earnest deposit to be returned to me by the broker, and it was. The owner of the home decided to... sue me three years later as he felt he was entitled to the earnest deposit, although he gained by selling the property for a higher amount than I was supposed to purchase it.
