Child Custody 50%

Ms. Stasio's practice handles all areas of family law and because cases involve multiple areas she cannot adequately assign percentages. She specializes in high conflict custody cases, but often those include other issues as well. Ms. Stasio believes that parties should make wise decisions, based on knowledge, choices and a cost benefit analysis. Sometimes the path is mediation and other times it is litigation, but she has the skills to handle either path.

A not so super super attorney

I’m not sure what the criteria is to earn the title of “super lawyer” but I can assure you that there is nothing exceptional about his attorney. She always seems overwhelmed (probably because she is taking on too many clients at the same time) and not prepared for court. Her big selling point is that... she works out of Montgomery County and knows the judges, but in Maryland the attorneys have no influence over the judges their clients are to stand trial before, so it doesn’t matter what county your lawyers’ office is in. In fact, the first two judges we went before Renee had no knowledge of their work and the one judge she knew we lost the case. In all three legal proceedings she didn’t prepare until the day of the court date. Very unprofessional. I was accused of domestic abuse and she asked me to meet at Starbucks and prepped me for the trial in line while waiting to get a cup of coffee. Imagine discussing such a sensitive matter in a public place like a coffee shop? Divorce is a very difficult experience to go through and you need someone that will be there for you, unfortunately, Renee was not there for me. There are thousands of attorneys in the DC and I would encourage you to shop around before settling on this one. I made the switch midway through my divorce and was very happy with my new attorney.

Cannot litigate in open court and bullies her client.

As a former client I had the opportunity to witness Ms. Stasio's inability to litigate in open court. She became overwhelmed, missed pertinent information, and critical points were not brought to the attention of the court and opposing counsel. She gave poor advise, causing me more expense by volunte...ering to write a brief that opposing counsel should have written and filing motion that most attorneys know would not be reconsidered by a judge. She is emotional and on too many occasions argued with and yelled at me because I didn't agree with her. Going through a divorce is already a difficult situation she made matters worse. I am now still trying to rectify some of her poor advice in my current court proceedings, in terms of custody. She was more concerned about receiving payment than in the best interest of her client and client's child in a divorce, custody and child support case.

I am not sure which client this is, because I do not have any clients that I know of whom are in this position. If this is a client, I apologize that you were not happy with my services and would welcome a phone call to discuss. However, I believe in all likelihood this is a disgruntled former opposing party who lost.

Terrible judgment and wastes time and money

She is not competent so she tries to compensate by theatrics. She embarrasses herself and her clients by the way she conducts herself. I hired her but am glad I fired her before she could mess up my case. She does not check her facts and does not know the law and was admonished by the judge severa...l times. She should not be practicing law.

Over emotional, bad at making arguments before judge

She's nice enough but that doesn't really matter so much when it comes legal representation. She's not good at standing up to questions from the judge and the other side's lawyer. She also has a tendency to be a bit emotional. Goes hand in hand with being bad at making arguments, just doesn't have th...e logical skills to cut it. My case outcome was poor and I would say its due to her bad lawyering.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
