Prior to joining Tycko & Zavareei LLP, Melanie Williamson was a litigation associate at a large regional firm in the Midwest, where her practice focused on both complex civil litigation and civil rights law. Most recently, Melanie represented the trustees of a non-profit religious organization in a multi-million dollar property dispute, which involved complicated First Amendment questions regarding the effect of hierarchical religious relationships on the control and ownership of corporate property.
Melanie earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2006. As a law student, she received an award for her writing on intellectual and cultural property, and served as an advocate for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia Civil Service Division. Melanie received her Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Howard University’s College of Arts and Sciences, where she was a James Baldwin Literary Criticism Excellence scholar and a two-time recipient of the Howard University Hilltop Achievement Scholarship. While an undergraduate student at Howard, Melanie established the Final Hour, an intellectual cooperative that provided resources and counseling to African American families dealing with mental illnesses and disability.
Melanie has also worked with the Ohio Public Defender as a trial attorney in criminal misdemeanor and felony matters, and has represented indigent persons in eviction and other civil litigation matters for the Legal Aid Society of Cincinnati.
Melanie joined Tycko & Zavareei LLP in August 2009. She is admitted to practice in the State of Ohio, the District of Columbia, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
