Can't Recommend Her Highly Enough!

A year ago, I unexpectedly found myself needing a divorce lawyer. I was utterly devastated and had absolutely no idea where to turn. After gathering a list of referrals from friends in the legal community, I began making calls to attorneys. They were all extremely well-qualified and competent, but in... all of those interactions, only one -- Melissa Kucinski -- made clear that she saw me not just as a case file number, but as a human being. I told Melissa about my situation -- what was happening, and my uncertainty/total lack of knowledge about how to proceed -- and her first response was not to launch into legalese or detachedly quote her hourly rate, but to acknowledge my pain and tell me how sorry she was to hear what I was going through. That meant the world to me. She spent ample time patiently answering my many questions and give me a basic idea of how the process would unfold -- all before I hired her, or even committed to doing so. That same blend of kindness, empathy, and incredible professional skills/expertise that stood out so strikingly on that first phone call would come to characterize the entirety of my experience with Melissa. She's brilliant, she's thorough, she's fair, she's clear-headed, she's caring, she's unflinchingly honest, she's generous with her time, and she's hard-working. In short, Melissa Kucinski is everything I could have possibly hoped for in a lawyer, and far more. I would never wish a painful divorce like mine on any other person. But they happen -- and if I'm glad for anything about the experience, it's that I had someone like Melissa Kucinski to guide me through it, advocate on my behalf, and reach a resolution that protected me and my best interests as I began the difficult process of rebuilding my life. I cannot fully express my gratitude to Melissa Kucinski, nor can I recommend her highly enough.

"Ms. Kucinski started out as our intern many years ago and has rapidly become a trusted colleague and a leader in our field. Over the years we have worked together on many different projects to improve how the legal system works for families, and consulted on cases. She is one of the most tireless, hard-working, organized, proactive people I have ever known. She is committed to reaching workable, humane resolutions in her clients' lives by whatever means is needed, whether that is litigation, negotiation, or mediation. She also works to build institutions that will do a better job for families, especially in two cutting-edge areas of rapid change: international families and alternative forms of dispute resolution, such as mediation and collaboration."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
