Jeannine Gomez joined Wilkes Legal, LLC in 2021 to help launch its family law practice.
Jeannine has dedicated her career to honing a unique grasp of individual, interpersonal, cultural, and family dynamics that drive conflict in family law cases. What motivates Jeannine is helping her clients solve their family law problems in uniquely cost-effective and less stressful ways. Jeannine prides herself on using her fluency in Spanish and French to listen closely to her clients’ goals and to litigate with agency, strategy, and honesty.
Jeannine practiced as a staff and then senior staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society of D.C. in their Domestic Violence and Family Law Unit for over eight years (from 2011 – 2019) where she represented or advised over a thousand clients in civil protection order, custody, child support, and related family law matters. Jeannine has handled complex civil protection order cases often involving related criminal matters. She has also handled complex custody cases involving physical and sexual child abuse, expert witnesses, guardians ad litem, and child witnesses. While the majority of her experience is in family law litigation, she has also successfully defended two clients in civil protection order and custody cases, respectively, in the D.C. Court of Appeals.
At Ayuda, from 2009 to 2011, at Legal Aid from 2018 to 2019, and at KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) from 2020 to 2021, Jeannine has also represented and advised clients in asylum, special immigrant juvenile, VAWA, U-visa, and adjustment of status cases.
Immediately after law school, from 2007 to 2009, Jeannine served as a law clerk in the Family Court of the District of Columbia Superior Court for Judge J. Michael Ryan, on the domestic relations and juvenile calendars, and for Magistrate Judges Mary Grace Rook and Janet Albert, on abuse and neglect calendars.
Jeannine received her J.D. in 2007, magna cum laude, from the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), David A. Clarke School of Law, previously the Antioch School of Law. In law school, she served as Senior Editor of the UDC Law Review and received two merit scholarships, including a Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Scholarship. Upon graduation, Jeannine was recognized with the Dean’s Fellow Award (top 10% of graduating class) and a Clinical Legal Education Association Outstanding Student Award.
Jeannine is fluent in Spanish and French and is licensed to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
