Mr. Zimmer is a court-appointed custody mediator and a civil litigation arbitrator. He is the chair of the Berks County Bar Family Law Section as well as Law Day Committee. He has sat on subcommittees of the Berks County Bar Association and presented legal education seminars to the Bar. Mr. Zimmer served on the board of the Family Guidance Center, and he is the former Chairman of the Western District Berks County Republican Committee. Mr. Zimmer recently provided editorial assistance by evaluating the legal points of Dr. Brenda Russell’s new book, The Battered Woman’s Syndrome in the Courts, a textbook on domestic violence to be used in both law schools and other graduate programs. Dr. Russell is an Associate Professor in Applied Psychology and Coordinator of the Applied Psychology Program at Penn State University’s Berks campus. McFarland & Company published the book in late 2010. Mr. Zimmer resides with his family in Spring Township.
He started his professional career as a counselor and while obtaining a Masters Degree in psychology at Temple University he had the opportunity to take a malpractice course that introduced him to the legal profession. It was at that time that he decided to go to law school with the goal of practiciing in an area of law where he could maximize his law degree and background in psychology. He worked at the District Attorney's office prosecuting a wide variety of matters however in light of his background heI began to work in the special victims unit prosecuting cases ranging from sexual assault to kidnapping. After commencing private practice he decided to concentrate in an area of law where he could once again make use of his background in psychology to best assist his clients and he quickly concentrated his practice in the area of family law.
Getting a divorce or fighting for custody can be one of the most difficult and frightening times in ones life. It is important to have an attorney that is able to negotiate when possible to try to save the client money and arrive at the best resolution possble but who is also a proficient litigator who can zealously advocate for their client in a courtroom. With his unique background he understand the emotional context and can emphasize with his client while at the same time provide his client with exceptional representaion as a result of a practice concentrated in family law.
