The claims by the client's mother are untrue. The client's mother routinely refused my phone calls, refused to talk with the court's pre-sentence investigator, and declined to meet with me in person prior to sentencing. This case involved the unprovoked shooting by a drug dealer of a stranger out to get cigarettes from the corner store late at night. I still got a jury verdict of 3rd degree (not first, which carries life or death), and a sentence below that offered by the Commonwealth. I was not fired. I asked to be relieved of the case after sentencing, which the court agreed to. I still like the client, but can not deal with his mother (who previously cursed me out with an ethnic slur--which I will not tolerate). George Newman
