also known as W. Frank Johnson, Jr., Frank Johnson
W. Frank Johnson, Jr. (“Frank”) brings a rare combination of sophisticated family law experience, practical judgment, and genuine compassion to his work at Cooper Family Law. For more than two decades, Frank has helped clients navigate some of the most consequential and personal decisions they will ever face—from complex, multi-million-dollar divorces and high-asset financial disputes to difficult custody matters involving children, grandparents, and changing family circumstances.
Frank understands that family law is never simply about the law. Divorce can affect financial security, businesses, relationships, and a family’s future. Custody disputes can affect where children live, how parents share time, and the stability of the entire family. Frank’s role is to help clients understand what is at stake, identify their options, anticipate potential challenges, and make informed decisions about the path forward.
Before joining Cooper Family Law, Frank founded and led his own family law firm. He also spent several years practicing with one of Pennsylvania’s preeminent family law practice groups. That experience has given him extensive knowledge of the financial, legal, and practical issues that arise in sophisticated family law matters, including cases involving closely held businesses, significant assets, and high-net-worth individuals. At the same time, Frank has represented clients whose most important concerns are not financial—they are focused on protecting their relationships with their children and ensuring their families have a secure and stable future.
Frank primarily represents clients throughout the Philadelphia region, including the Main Line and Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, and Chester counties. The demand for his legal guidance, has expanded his practice in recent years to include counties throughout Pennsylvania. He handles divorce and equitable distribution, complex financial matters, child custody and relocation, grandparent custody and visitation rights, child and spousal support, prenuptial agreements, and protection from abuse matters.
One of Frank’s greatest strengths is his ability to connect with his clients. He has represented business owners and high-net-worth individuals in high-stakes, multi-million-dollar divorces, as well as grandparents seeking custody of a grandchild and parents facing difficult custody disputes. Regardless of the circumstances or financial complexity of a case, Frank brings the same commitment to careful preparation, thoughtful strategy, and personal attention.
Frank is also known for being direct with his clients. He believes people facing major family decisions deserve more than reassurance—they deserve an honest assessment of their situation. He takes pride in telling clients what they need to hear, rather than simply what they want to hear. He explains the law in practical terms, identifies both opportunities and risks, and helps clients understand the potential consequences of their decisions.
Although Frank is an experienced and successful litigator, he recognizes that litigation is not always the best solution. A courtroom victory is not necessarily the same thing as a successful outcome for a family. When negotiation, settlement, or another approach can better serve a client’s long-term interests, Frank is willing to pursue it. When litigation is necessary, he is prepared to advocate forcefully and strategically.
This balance—knowing when to fight, when to negotiate, and when to step back and consider the bigger picture—is central to Frank’s approach. His goal is not simply to resolve the legal issue in front of him, but to help clients make decisions that protect what matters most to them, both now and in the years ahead.
Frank earned his Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Clemson University. He was admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania in 2004.
If you are facing a divorce, custody dispute, or another significant family law matter, having an experienced attorney who will give you candid advice and help you understand your options can make all the difference.
