I applied for the permanent residence status and Matthew was extremely efficient, knowledgeable, lucid, detail-oriented, and most importantly delightful to work with in this (generally not so enjoyable) process. He knew all the details about the immigration laws and regulations. He was versed in ...various treaties that each country may have with the U.S. (in my case between Japan and the U.S.) and gave me very specific guidance with which I can fully take advantage of these treaties. While waiting for the renewal of my permanent residency, I had to go back to Japan for a family emergency. I only had an expired green card and a few letters from USCIS that time, but I had to leave the U.S. right away to see my family member in Japan. I thought that I wouldn't be able to come back without going through an onerous reapplication process for my green card in Japan, but when I e-mailed Matthew, he immediately responded to to me with a few recommendations that I should do before leaving the U.S. It is all hindsight knowledge for me, but he really knew that what would have been crucial for me in that specific circumstance and gave me concise and accurate advice. Also, he views that the entire immigration process holistically and understands that it is not a matter of paperwork for immigrants. In my case, I had to swap from an H-1B visa sponsored by my workplace to a permanent residency (after getting married). Matthew truly understood that this transition entailed some subtle and delicate aspects (such as relationships to my employer and my wife) and suggested various alternatives that may be worth considering for the extraneous factors such as family, employment, costs, and time.
