Ivo Jonathan Becica

Ivo Becica is an associate in Obermayer’s Labor Relations & Employment Law Department. Mr. Becica focuses his practice on defending employment matters, including litigation if it should arise, streamlining the process for his clients. He has significant experience analyzing and applying state and federal law, including discrimination, retaliation and harassment claims under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, Conscientious Employee Protection Act, Title VII, and constitutional claims under the New Jersey Civil Rights Act and 42 U.S.C. § 1983.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Becica worked as a deputy attorney general in the Employment Litigation Section of the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General – Division of Law, in Trenton, New Jersey. Mr. Becica has represented various New Jersey public entities through all phases of litigation in federal and state courts, including trial and appellate work, and has frequently advised his clients on employment-related issues arising during litigation. His employment litigation experience includes:

• Representing public entities in two CEPA whistleblower trials.
• Handling a multi-plaintiff race discrimination, hostile work environment, and retaliation case as first chair trial counsel.
• Taking and defending depositions of plaintiffs, defendants, and witnesses in employment claims.
• Drafting and arguing motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment.

While in law school, Mr. Becica served as the Internet editor for the Rutgers Law Journal. After law school, he served as a law clerk for the Hon. Amy Piro Chambers in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.
