Mr. Levant is a veteran trial attorney who began his career as a public defender in Philadelphia representing indigent defendants charged with serious crimes. He has tried countless jury trials and won acquittals in cases alleging capital murder, rape, arson, drug trafficking and an array of other charges.
Mr. Levant is perhaps best known for using his trial skills to correct wrongs that he witnesses in the judicial system by defending those charged with crimesand pursuing civil rights claims against those who enforce policies which lead to the violation of civil rights or cast a blind eye toward such practices.
Recently, Mr. Levant secured the largest settlement ever paid by the City of Philadelphia in a civil rights case involving a wrongful police shooting. Mr. Levant's client was an innocent home owner shot inside of his own house while doing nothing wrong. In fact, the officer entered the home as a result of a series of errors including the improper handling of a 911 call and the officer brandishing his gun even though there was no evidence of a crime in progress. During the discovery process, Mr. Levant was able to prove that the officer who fired the shot had recently been the subject of a questionable shooting and had not been through the proper review and disciplinary proceedings before being placed back on the street. This breakdown in the system led to the client being shot and Mr. Levant was outspoken about the need for the City to address the failure of the police department to police its own officers.
In another civil rights action, Mr. Levant was able to prove that police officers had fabricated allegations that his client had fired a gun at them when, in fact, it was the police officers who had fired their guns. Upon obtaining forensic testing of bullet casings in the police officers’ guns, Mr. Levant was able to prove that the officers had fired their guns improperly and attempted to cover that up by accusing his client. After the innocent man had spent several months in jail, charges of assault on the officers were withdrawn by the prosecution and the client subsequently received a large recovery.
Mr. Levant received his undergraduate degree from Temple University in 1991 and graduated summa cum laude from the District of Columbia Law School in 1995. In 1999, he started his own law firm seeking to use his trial expertise to shed a bright light upon cases involving excessive force by police officers. Mr. Levant has also been a regular panelist on Lynn Doyle’s television show “It’s Your Call” which formerly aired on the Comcast Network. Mr. Levant has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania where he taught a course on Law and Social Policy as well as the Criminal Law Unit in Introduction to Law and Legal Process at The Wharton School. He has also served as an instructor at Temple University’s L.L.M. program in Trial Advocacy.
For several months during 2013 and 2014, Mr. Levant traveled through Africa with his wife, Kathy, and his two sons, Roman and Mabret. They chronicled their experiences through a travel blog which can be found at .

This Guy! Where do I even start? This is going to be a long one. I “IMPLORE” you to read this in its entirety. Being middle aged and never been in any type of trouble in our lives, we found ourselves in need of a serious lawyer. My husband came into some legal trouble with the Attorney General over t...
"I have known Bob Levant personally and professionally for several years. Over the last years we have worked closely on criminal defense and civil rights cases - both state and federal - that involved complex issues and real consequences for our mutual clients. I cannot imagine a more organized, thoughtful, hard-working and accessible attorney than Bob. I know of no other lawyer that can process a legal issue or obstacle for a client as quickly and effectively as Bob. He is also practical and honest - so clients know what they are facing and can deal with the reality of their case and make decisions with full knowledge of all their options and what each option means to them. He is a top notched attorney, adviser, and litigator. I recommend him highly."
"I've worked with Bob on three separate matters, a wrongful death arising out of a car accident, a complicated medical malpractice case and a serious criminal matter. Bob is an exceptionally experienced police misconduct and criminal defense attorney. In all three cases, he developed an exceptional understanding of the facts and law. He has a confident, yet down-to-earth manner of dealing with opposing counsel and judges that significantly contributed to the success of all three cases. I would strongly recommend Bob to anyone that needs a civil rights, criminal or personal injury attorney."
