As an addict, one of the hardest ways to get to your "own rock bottom" is to get arrested for DUI. While we feel scared, lost, frantic, and hopeless inside, we are normally also met with a society that often seems to want to automatically cancel us, stare down their noses at us and punish us for some...thing they believe we continue to do because we "want to" and that we "could stop if we REALLY WANTED to". Two years ago, I was arrested on my second DUI. I had gotten the first only 3 years prior to that and after that experience, I was convinced I was headed to "The Big House", Upstate, and they were throwing the key away. Convinced that my first experience with a public defender didn't seem right and that I received the sentence I did because my lawyer spent LITERALLY NO TIME AT ALL WITH ME, I asked around for some suggestions for good, local, DUI lawyers and Bill Thompson was a name I heard more than once. After hearing his name a few times when I asked the same, "Who would you say is THE BEST DUI Lawyer in the area", question, I decided to get in touch with him. I texted Bill that day, fully expecting to get some administrative assistant who would "pass the message along to Mr. Thompson" and never hear anything again until court day, when I'd meet him there 5 minutes before, where he would make sure I signed papers that claimed that I felt my attorney listened to me and understood my case, and he would work his 10 minutes I'm the courtroom as if he really worked. Then, I'd go off to jail, and he'd be off to vacation in Cabo with the money he made from "representing me". He would even answer ANY OTHER law question I had for him!! I wasn't fully aware of how amazing Bill's representation skills were until I had a counselor, who had been in the profession for some time, convinced that I was working under cover for law enforcement, because I'd received what he said to be, "the lightest ever sentence for a second DUI"!! The truth of this situation isn't that Bill Thompson, "got me out of my DUI" or "got me off on some technicality". Bill liked me when I couldn't like myself. I asked Bill Thompson to represent me after a few summary offenses and he went to bat from day 1. Never did I feel that the circumstance was not manageable or the most favorable outcome would come to light. I met Mr. Thompson about 4 years ago. I was on probation at the time and I hired him in June 2011 for a reduction of my sentence. (I was sentenced in 2008 for 5 1/2 years Probation, among other things. Mr. Thompson was not my lawyer at the time ) After hiring Mr. Thompson he had a hearing set up wi...th the Judge in October 2011, however I was violated before my court date. He immediately came to speak with me the day I was incarcerated in September of 2011. He kept me up to date with information regarding my case regularly. If I had questions he was able to answer them. For example I was on a certain block while incarcerated. He was able to answer my question. He was also in communication with my mother during that time to keep her up to date as well. He was reasonably priced in comparison to my previous lawyer. He managed to have my sentence reduced by a year and a half with a violation and I was out of jail in 43 days. I have used him in other situations regarding the law after being out of jail in November 2011 and I would use him again. I highly recommend him to others and I will continue to do so.
