also known as Mike Feeney
Mike concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of medical malpractice, nursing home defense, and appellate matters. He has successfully defended his clients at all stages of litigation, including trial, appeals to both state and federal appellate courts, and arbitration. Mike's trial experience includes sitting second-chair on the first modern nursing home malpractice case to be tried to verdict in Allegheny County, which lasted more than three weeks in 2007.
In April 2011, Mike was selected by Amen Corner, a prestigious Pittsburgh organization founded in 1870, to receive the inaugural Judge James R. McGregor Award for exceptional contributions to the community by a young lawyer. This award, given at Amen Corner's 51st Annual Judicial Reception, acknowledged Mike's persistent and honorable service to his clients while providing leadership to his colleagues and his community. The event was attended by over 200 people, including Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, local politicians, and over 40 members of the judiciary. Mike received proclamations from both Pittsburgh City Council and Allegheny County Council declaring April 28, 2011, to be "Michael K. Feeney, Esq. Day" in both the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
Mike was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2010 and 2011. Considered among the best in their profession, Rising Stars represent the top 2.5% of the practicing attorneys in Pennsylvania, age 40 or younger or in practice for ten years or less.
Mike is extensively involved in both state and local bar associations. He currently serves as the Immediate Past Chair of the Allegheny County Bar Association's (ACBA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) and, in that capacity, serves as the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer of the ACBA and on the ACBA's Board of Governors. He has served as an elected member of the YLD Council since 2006 and was appointed as the Chair of the YLD’s Public Service Committee in 2008 and 2009. Mike has served on the ACBA's Professional Ethics Committee since 2009. He was selected to be a part of the ACBA's Bar Leadership Initiative class in 2005, which identifies and trains young attorneys to become leaders within the bar. Mike was inducted as an inaugural member of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation's Young Lawyers Fellows in 2009.
Mike's accomplishments with the ACBA include envisioning and creating the "Legal Guide for Families in Medical Crisis" in 2011 (a website that provides guidance on complicated healthcare issues) and the "Practicing Green Initiative" in 2009 (a program that encourages law firms to utilize environmentally friendly practices). The LGFMC won first place in the American Bar Association's "Awards of Achievement" competition for public service programs in 2011, and the PGI won second place in 2010.
In 2008, Mike was appointed to a three-year term on the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s (PBA) House of Delegates, serving as the Zone Twelve Delegate for the PBA Young Lawyers Division. He was reappointed for a second three-year term in 2011.
Mike serves on the Executive Committee and Programming Committee of the W. Edward Sell Chapter of the American Inns of Court, having been a member since 2003. Mike's Inn nominated him for the Sandra Day O'Connor Award, a national recognition for professional service, in 2011.
In the community, Mike was a member of the Board of Directors for the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh from 2003 to 2009. Since 2006, he has also served as the co-captain of the "Yinzers for Ellie" team in the "Race for Ellie," a fundraiser for mitochondrial disease research. In the last three years, Mike's team has raised over $30,000.
Prior to joining Matis Baum O'Connor, Mike was a staff attorney for Chief Justice Stephen A. Zappala of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. During law school, Mike served as a law clerk for both the Pennsylvania Governor's Office of General Counsel and the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office.
Mike earned his law degree from the Dickinson School of Law at the Pennsylvania State University in 2001 and his undergraduate degree from Ohio Northern University in 1998.

Relationship: Worked together on matter
I was acquainted with Michael during a project he lead for the Allegheny County Bar Association, Young Lawyer's Division, dealing with production of a national award winning Guide to Families in Medical Crisis. Micheal is a strong leader, providing guidance and encouragement to those he works with. His passion for causes such as the one we worked on and many others he is involved in is a model for young attorneys on a leadership track. There is no doubt his clients benefit from this passion and his caring involvement in causes that benefit the community as a whole.
