Arrogant and not very knowegeable

He was recommended by my real estate agent. I am not impressed by any means. At closing I asked if it would be better to keep the original certificate of occupancy in my possession. He immediately ripped it from the abstract of title and handed it to me. I had to go to the Abstract Title Inc. and ...ask them to attach the certificate to the abstract so it can be kept safe. He did not mention that I am responsible for the tax bill whether I get the bill or not. (Well, this is no brainier, but he could have mentioned that I was not getting the bill since there was less than a week left between closing and bills being sent out). In later conversation he claimed that he did not know that it takes 6 to 8 weeks for the County to notify the town of the owner change. I can attribute his behavior to either to his lack of knowledge or simple careless of the client. (I suspect both). He was rude to me when I called and pointed out that he could have been more organized while working for me. He does not seem to care about the client and is not afraid to show it.

Worthless

Based on my experience with Anthony I would not recommend him to handle any legal matter. Reading reviews for Anthony B. Iacovangelo I see the same sentiment from other clients. And, when you read the same commentary about Anthony, there isn’t anything more to say. First and foremost, if anyone... tells you you need an attorney to purchase a home in New York State, walk away. Some real estate agents and some real estate attorneys speak of the requirement of buyers & sellers to retain counsel. This is FALSE. New York State does not legally mandate anyone hire an attorney. Now, my experience with Anthony was off to a bad start when he didn’t deny or clarify the fact that I did not need an attorney to purchase a home, despite my agent stating I was required to use an attorney. Anthony made sophomoric errors in a basic Settlement Sheet over & over & over & over & over, failed to review the contract with me, tried to sell me a process I didn’t need, evaded most of my questions, supplied creative answers in order to try to get me to pay for things I didn’t need, and then took no responsibility when errors were pointed out. Yes, my experience also included his arrogant attitude, lack of attention to detail, and lack of fiduciary responsibility to me. In addition, Anthony pawned me off to a colleague for the closing. However when I showed for the closing another person was in the replacement attorneys position! Seriously, neither attorney let me know that my closing would be conducted by a 3rd person. That person was equally unethical as he made false statements when questioned about certain aspects of the closing. When I confronted Anthony with the statements the other attorney made during the closing, his reply was that he wasn’t at the closing and could not comment. He never offered to speak with that attorney and get back to me, or clarify the questions I had. Until I forced the issue! And still, they used legalese in an attempt to steamroll me. Even the receptionist was arrogant, cold and unwelcoming. Upon arriving for the closing, she told me the attorney I was there to see wasn’t in the office today. No kidding. Internally this office lacks client-focus to the point that they didn’t notify the receptionist who my closing attorney would be! Unfortunately because a real estate attorney is not required to send an engagement letter to a client when the fee is below $3000, there is little recourse. I will never hire Anthony again, nor anyone in the Gallo & Iacovangelo firm due to all of these interactions. Because my experience was so poor, I can’t recommend Anthony.

This review is not accurate. Technically you do not need an attorney to buy a house in NY but that would assume that one knows how to examine title, pro-rate taxes and calculate government recording fees. I did not "pawn" this client off on another attorney, I had another closing at the same time that day, so another partner from the real estate department covered the closing on my behalf. This was a standard all cash closing, there was nothing out of the ordinary. Most of the time I dealt with this client's husband, he was very nice and understood everything we had discussed during the process. When this client got involved, everything turned into a struggle, almost as if she wanted to make me understand that she knew more about real estate in New York than I did. She insisted that that I made mistakes. I made none and I have the documentation to prove it. An example of this: A week or so after the closing she sent me an email accusing me of charging her a fee to pay her taxes. I did not charge her to pay her taxes, the fee she was referring to was the cost to record the Deed. She had a copy of the closing statement in advance of closing and did not ask any questions regarding the costs or fees. This is with the exception of the title insurance. She is correct in stating that title insurance is optional, however, I simply recommended that they purchase it and it would be in their best interest to do so. She declined to purchase it as it was in her discretion. I never tried to "sell" her anything. This lady is a condescending know it all who thinks everyone else is stupid. Not to mention she is rude and inconsiderate. My receptionist is a very professional person who has worked for my for more than 10 years. This person does not even know my receptionist. She came in and interacted with her for 30 seconds, I'm not sure how she could say such terrible things like that. Mainly I feel bad for her husband, I couldn't imagine being married to a witch like that. In 25 years of practice, I have never been treated like this by a client. This person is miserable and steps on people to make her feel better about miserable existence. She reported me to the Bar Association and made allegations that were false and untrue. I was exonerated because they knew what she stated in the complaint was not true. I have learned that no matter what you do for people you cannot satisfy them. I did my job, these clients bought their property and obtained clean title to it. Again, routine closing.

Great Service. TY Anthony!

I know that you handle hundreds of closings a year however Ed and I wanted to let you know that we appreciate your handling of the closing of our home in Brighton. After 33 years we were not that familiar with all the specifics or what we needed to get done but you and your staff kept us informed and... on track. Closing went without a hitch. Many thanks to you and your team!
